@Badboymelvin
Kangaroo aren't the cute cuddly critters people think they are. They can be nasty bastards.
Mum had a pet buck kangaroo growing up but it had to be put down ( plus they are it afterwards) because it turned nasty and just wanted to belt the shit out of anyone that came to the house even some of the family members.
Those big reds can get to over six feet tall and have arms that would make Arnold Shitzinyadackzerr envious.

In a classic conflict from Down Under, an Australian man was forced to intervene when an aggressive kangaroo threatened to drown his dog in a river Saturday. (October 2023)

Yes Bob but none of those Big Reds or Foresters (Grey Roo) scare me but I was scared shitless as a young fella in the Mts Goat hunting & a hugh Black Wallaroo Buck was advancing on me even after I shot him twice in the chest with my Win 92 (not a M65 as rebarreled) in 218 Bee, found out later the 45gr hollow points were flattening on his Pecs !

But one in the head sorted it out !

As it normally does.

@Sarg they can be tough bastards.
I shot heaps with a 22 using subsonics.
Wait until they turn their head and smack them in the back of the scone, the drop like a bag of spuds but the range has to be 50 yards or less.
The favourite calibre of yore for the old timers was the 25-303 loaded with 87gn taipans.

They are long tailed deer that went to prison and pumped iron....

The good old 25-303 was also a go to deer cartridge .

Yes I think the 25/303 was the most popular, even with Factory ammo.

But the old guy I shot with had .22/303 (Sportco Sporter) for far out (so did a few shooters around us in Surat) .22 Hornet (Brno ZKW 465) for normal & sometimes .22 Mag (Stirling) we then shot enough to buy a Tikka M55 in .222Rem then all bets were off lol

They are truly fiendish looking creatures. I’ve only seen them in a zoo, but even behind the safety of fence they really gave me an unsettling feeling.

@PCC600
When I started hunting deer were the realm of the elite and spoken of in hushed tone and areas kept secret.
Nowadays they seem to be everywhere.
Bob
When I bought my farm in Tasmania in early 2000s I was issued permits to shoot 400 fallow deer each year . By the time I sold it 20 years later I was being issued 1200 permits each year . I nearly shot countless deer , the farm manager shot whatever I shot multiplied by 10 and poachers ( always after stags ) shot countless more deer and we still were seeing increasing numbers . Deer are thick all around Brisbane too . Mainly red deer but some Sambar to the north .

I don’t think that’s is right bud, are you thinking Rusa & a bit farther North from Brisbane ?

I was looking to buy a property inland from Noosa at Amamoor & it had Rusa Axis/Chital, Reds & a few Fallow !

Crazy now in Australia for Deer as Bob said was a big secret other than Sambar in Vic & Fallow in Tassie.

Way back then deer were even protected species in QLD & parts of NSW.

Yes plenty of Axis and Rusa behind the Sunshine Coast along with red which are being seen within 10kms of Brisbane CBD . Haven’t seen fallow but likely to be present . And there are Sambar way back in ranges in head waters of the Mary River .

Love those old ammo packets @Sarg (y)

Thank you @Tintin, you can’t call into Smiths Gunshop & buy a box now !

Can’t find a real good photo of a Big Buck Black Wallaroo but this is a example, some have much bigger chests & forearms then the other Roos bit shorter in height but near the same weight as chunkier, way back we could sell them to the chillers also, can’t imagine you still can ?

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
