Good evening,
So, very excitedly I have purchased a .416 Ruger Safari Magnum for my cape buffalo hunt in 2027.
It is one of the early models with a barrel band in the forestock, and I am going to get a sling mount put on the barrel. While I realise lots of people have this rifle with the original swivels and no complaints, I’m pretty set on doing this as I hope it will be my lifetime big game rifle and therefore I want it ‘just so’.
The rifle has express sights installed and regulated by Westley Richards, and I am therefore unwilling to muck about with them if at all possible, obviously installing a band swivel would do this and so I am looking at using a soldered-on swivel which one sees on some rifles.
The attached photograph of a Reknagel item looks the part for the job, but I was looking for anyone with experience of doing this kind of swivel rather than a barrel band. I believe my gunsmith should be able to mill the bottom of the piece to match the contour and either solder or loktite it on…
Any thoughts greatly appreciated, plus pictures of anything similar if someone’s got some!
