Good day.

I am an South African, and recently started doing business with Australian companies. it seems most is Melbourne based.
I was just wondering if I travel there for work, and wanted to maybe work in a Water buffalo hunt in, what type of logistics, time and connections would I need.
Is it even possible? I would like to use my own gun if possible.

Melbourne is a ~ 4.5 hour direct flight to Darwin where there are numerous outfitter options.

Being a local, I can’t speak to the details of the process for your own rifles, but you would have state paperwork for Victoria (Mebourne), NT (Darwin) and National Paperwork. Outfitter should be able to advise / assist.

I’m happy to have a chat to answer any questions via WhatsApp etc - just drop me a PM.

Agreed - the paperwork is a pain, but doable. Contact Alex at Big Country Safaris - they advertise here on this forum. I went with a group this past October - we had an awesome time.
Hunted in Australia twice and I agree with what others said above - The paperwork is a pain.

If you are traveling to Victoria first then the NT and wanting to take your own rifle you will have to have permits for both Victoria and the NT - You will also have to abide by their "safe storage requirements" while there..... meaning the rifle will have to be locked up in a safe somewhere.

This would all start with getting a letter of invite from a licensed safari operator that you will be hunting with to even begin the rifle paperwork.

My advice - Definitely do the hunt, but borrow a rifle from the outfitter!

You will also need to fill out export permits to ship your rifle back out of Australia after your hunt. We had a day in Sydney prior to our flight to Darwin, there's an office near the airport where you can fill out the export paperwork. If you go with Alex, I believe he can fill it out for you - be sure to ask.

Enjoy your hunt.

Thank you everybody.

i posted this before I started reading the hunting reports, and there is actually a ton of info hidden in them. So thank you for the hunters that did the write ups.

Ok so it was just a thought when I was working on a order for Aus, but it is fast becoming a dream. reading all the reports it dawned on me that I am not going to be happy if I do not do the wild, cull type hunt, so there is a lot of work to do in the future. or a combo of outfitter plus some extra. time to go on Facebook and see who of the old friends maybe live there somewhere :ROFLMAO:

it looks like a hell of an experience, so there will be a lot of homework in the future. then becoming single or finding a Verry understanding wife :censored::ROFLMAO::censored::A Stars:

Yes there was a lot of valuable info in your report (y). But sadly that same report is also the one that made me realize going in and out will never be enough , I want the Experience like you had, it just looked and sounded amazing.:D Beers:
I am a normal South African farm boy by hart, so that will be my dream kind of hunt.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
