AUSTRALIA: My First Nganabbarru For 2018...

Did you get sick ?

I once fell asleep on a camp stretcher next to the billabong in front of my camp, during the middle of the day.
When I woke and went to get up I felt a sharp stabbing pain running down my left arm. The more I tried moving my arm the more it hurt.
I found two puncture marks about 5mm apart.
Took a full week or more to recover from that one !!

No, he nibbled the bony part of my thumb, so the poison struggled to get past my arm. The arm swelled like a balloon for a few days. No medicine required except antibiotics. Hot and cold water treatment helped.

You guys are tough bastards.

My youthful stupidity got me bit.

We used to catch nasties by their tails. No more. I leave them be nowadays.

Paul, what do you think got you?

A couple of times I’ve found five millimetre puncture marks on my arm after walking through wet season spear grass. Never felt anything at the time and had no reaction.

When it originally happened I thought it may have been one of the many large spiders that were common, the pain was similar to a spiders bite , but this lasted way longer and extended the length of my arm. The swelling was brutal.

I think it may have been some form of snake. I'll never really know as seeking any type of medical attention to it was far from my mind. I had a camp to pack up and a drive home involving several thousand kilometers to cover.

I'm lucky to be not suffering after effects of such an incident as I know others have not been as fortunate.

That’s hardcore, mate!

Made worse.

Just as I was recovering from this debacle I was down at the billabong one morning fishing for my dinner. I hooked on to a good sized Barra on a thick hand-line.
As I was pulling him in to the bank he saw me and spooked, taking off at high speed. In reflex I wrapped the line around my fingers (of the same hand that had been bitten the week before) and watched the fishing line disappear in to the skin and flesh on my already swollen fingers !!!!!!!!!!!!
Took another week to get over that one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’re lucky it was only a red belly.
As a note red bellies are extremely deadly to dogs and the browns aren’t as deadly.
For non oz readers browns are extremely deadly on humans. In the top three on the world and the top two depending how you measure are also oz snakes. Welcome to Australia!

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
