Maybe try Viagra? If it works for your wienie, maybe it could help for your right knee or left knee too!

Help doc, knee is locked, leg is sticking straight up in the air!

Fun sifting through all these threads. I am an orthopedic surgeon with a bad right knee. I can still walk flat five miles plus, but not good on the descent. Sheep hunting is now in my past (have my grand slam, two with a bow), but still have a passion for the elephant, and would love to hunt a Lord Derby Eland. I have several upcoming hunts with my stepson for non trophy elephant in Matetsei, spiral horned antelope Limpopo, and with Zambezi Delta with four of the tiny ten plus Nyala in Mozambique that have all been Covid-19 postponed. Enough about me.

For knee pain you should have an evaluation to find out what is wrong. this would include an interview, exam and standard x rays. There may be a mechanical problem from a meniscus tear, the cushion or spacer between the Femur and the Tibia. May need MRI documentation. This is easily resolved with physical therapy with or without corticosteroid injection, and possibly arthroscopic management. For a degenerative knee where the cartilage covering the bone is eroding or damaged there are different options. These would include again some physical therapy, consideration of injectional therapy to include corticosteroids or possibly viscosupplementation, a glucosamine / hyaluronase substrate. This was initially derived from the Coxcomb of the rooster, but now is synthetically generated. This is a thick viscous slurry that is in one large injection, or in a series of three smaller injections. Like coats of paint on a wall. Makes the joint more slippery, and less sore. Peak effect longer than steroid. Two of three will be improved for up to anywhere from six months or beyond. Bracing to shift the weight away from the damaged side of the joint can be effective. Most people with try nonsurgical measures before pursuing surgical treatment. For Tibiofemoral arthritis ( between the femur and tibia or shin bone) arthroplasty or replacement surgery is entertained for failure of conservative treatment measures. This could be a partial replacement if only one of the compartments is involved, or a total knee replacement if there is three compartment disease. The compartments being inside or medial joint, outside or lateral joint, and the patellofemoral or knee cap joint. The patellofemoral joint has its own special treatment considerations. Recovery will generally be three to six months and give you a B+ knee. Risks include infection (generally less than 1%), blood clot with possible pulmonary embolus, joint stiffness, or instability, and ultimately wear of the implants requiring revision surgery. Not to be taken lightly.

My two cents. Hopefully this helps those with bum knees to make more appropriate decisions about there choices for future care. Good hunting and be safe. TG
I appreciate the info, even if I dont understand a lot of it.

I had my right knee "fixed" back about 5 years ago. I would walk along and my knee would pop in and out of joint making me fall. The doctor fixed several years in the miniscus, resurfaced the ends of the bones and the kneecap, and pulled out a chunk of bone about 4 inches long that was between the thigh and shinbone. However, arthritis and a rather fun young adulthood has taken their toll. I have gotten shots that help replace the fluids inside the joint with some sort of thickening agent to help prevent bone on bone impact. Someday my knees swell up like balloons and hurt like hell. I am trying to wait as long as I can to get replacements but the writing is on the wall. At age 55 I want to wait until I am 60 or so but we can't and needs may become something very different.

Have them check your auric acid, if it came on sudden, you might just be welcomed into the Gout club. I get it in both my knees at times and can’t do a damn thing

I have osteoarthritis in both knees...had a meniscus taken away in my left 10 years ago and now my right is up for the same.. Had MR and both joints have deteriorated...it sucks..

However, 10 years ago my orthopedist urged me to exercise on a spinning cycle to strengthen the joints, with a moderate load....have been doing that and it helps..

You are not alone. My has been on for over ten years. does it ever get better ?
It gets better to a point but you are always 1 dumb move away from being in the same place again; things you should be able to do with relative ease but can't. I see 80 year olds in better shape than me.

I spinning bike helps strengthen your knees. It has helped mine a good bit.

All physically active adults probably have knee problems. Unfortunately, I also had issues with my knee joint. One day my leg hurt a lot. I thought it was because I was walking a lot that day, but it wasn't. My leg had been hurting badly for 3 days, so I went to https://www.cameronmch.com/services/orthopaedics/ and for a good reason. They quickly identified the problem and prescribed me a course of treatment. I was lucky that I got help in time. If I had done it later, it would have been much worse.

When I was 61 I was very overweight and had all sorts of knee & back issues. I lost about 60 pounds and at age 63 took up running. Had some issues on the left knee and ended up having it scoped. Being a rather stubborn individual I pushed the PT too much and ended up with some issues which sidelined me for almost a year.

Age 65 I started over again with a run/walk program. I'm now 71 and have some days when I have knee pain but frankly on the days I don't go out and put some miles in the ache is more annoying. Currently I notice more joint issues from cold weather and from inadequate hydration than I do from my exercise program.

First step to a knee issue is to get it evaluated. Without doing that you haven't got a clue as to what's going on. And then, if you're overweight.........lose some!

I've had several meniscus surgeries, both knees, over my lifetime from skiing twists and falls, a tibial plateau surgery where they took a piece of bone from my hip to build the tibia back up to level. The tibia was depressed about a half inch. Two years ago I got run over skiing and have constant pain and weakness in my right knee, the tibia surgery one. I can walk pretty well on the level but can't put much weight on it going up or down hills and stairs. I have to put my right foot down and then the left, kind of sideways walking, or it collapses on me. Putting off a replacement as long as I can get a shot every so often.

40 years of hockey took its toll. I've had partially torn MCL and ACL's over the years. My right knee was locking up and I thought I was on the road to replacement. It turns out I had a floater. The surgeon was shocked I was able to flex at all. Apparently it was the size of an egg yoke and had to come out in 7 pieces. All good now, just gotta stay off the ice!

Ice rinks or ice bags?
