Another day handgun hunting in Limpopo for Warthog.
I went on four different solo .357 mag handgun day-hunts so far during the past 30 days.

[.357 mag revolver , 6'' barrel with stock standard sights and 158 gr Sig JHP points factory bullets this time]

This photo indicate my on the spot hiding in 'plain sight' hide/blind made with only my small camo net and Shemach, behind that old thorn-tree with some low shrubs and sparse tallish grass.

Also observe my small neck knife used as an 'anchor' in the tree to keep the Shemach in place at the correct height...
Here I waited the whole afternoon [1-5pm] patiently and motionless in ambush [for 5-hours] till sunset for the Warthogs to hopefully suddenly appear into my view anywhere in an about 120 degree angle at a distance anywhere from about 10-30m, depending from which direction they are coming from for a nice mud bath...

[There are lots of signs of bathing activity and mud rubbing visible around this spot]

The wind direction were nicely into my face for most of that afternoon, though later during the day the wind started swirling around at times-not good!
I didn't shot my sought after big tusked warthog boar that day, as it's not always a given that any revolver hunt would be successful in the Bushveld at such short distances.

The abundant and diversity of birdlife around that mud hole was something to behold though!
At around 4:15 pm a silver backed Jackal did visit the spot trying his luck in catching a Dove, Sand Partridge or even a Swainson's Spurfowl, but he --unfortunately for him--concentrated so much on the birds that he stepped right into my handguns death acre...

At 25m that .357 mag bullet took him at a quartering forward angle on the right shoulder blade and dropped him on the spot.

When I packed up at sunset, I yet again did'nt shot my elusive trophy Warthog with my trusted
handgun,
but as always-it's the hunt and not the kill that matters!

Observe my hiding in plain sight spot from the perspective of the
Jackal at sunset that day....

Observe, thanks for sharing your fun day in the outdoors. Keep trying, that old boar will show up one day. You just need to be there when he does.

That sounds like fun!
Congrats on the Jackal and looking forward to the pics and story of your big old boar. Good luck!
Thanks for taking us there

Congratulations Willem.
Your persistence already paid off. Good luck on the boar.

You´ll get him Willem !
