An impulse buy....6.5x54 MS....but not the one you think

I wonder if the clip could be 3d printed now?
@Flbt
Unless you could print 3d metal no.

A lot of the Carcano's were .268 with a gain twist barrel. Here in Oz they were not popular because the commercial ammo was .264 and you couldn't hit the side of a barn with them.
I have two Carcano's....one rebarrelled with a .264 barrel and chambered in 6.5x54 MS and the other in a wildcat of mine, 35 Carcano, the 6.5x54MS blown out to .358.

You could hit the side of a barn with a Carano and commercial ammo but you had to be no more than 6" from said barn. Even with military ammo they weren't any good. Those long pencil solids just drilled holes thru stuff.
How does that wildcat 35 go apart from slowly. It would be about the equivalent of the 35 REM

Actually its not that bad, it holds 54gr's of water, 4 more than the Remington and 3 less than the 358 Win. A bit of load testing with the powders that I have on hand give me about 2100 FPS with 180 gr pills, so I need to try some different powders.....any suggestion anyone ??
I'm going to stick with the 180gr hardcast powder coated projectiles.

Carcano clips are on Gunbroker for about $10 a piece.

I have a couple hundred of the Hornady Carcano 160gr RN bullets that I’d sell. They measure at .2665”- .267” with my digital calipers.
Ok no idea on that.
I was just going by what a you tube guy was saying about them. He said the clip was hard to find.
I just listen to my dad and uncles that said they were all big pos
Never bothered to try and shoot one.

True the plastic would not last long but if you were makeking it would that matter as long as they worked.
I was told there military ones were not actually ment to be reused
And people reusing there is some of the problems with feeding that they had back in the day. Idk just going by word of mouth on them.

Mil surplus I really perferd the 303.

For the 180 grain, I would try Rx7, IMR-3031, and H-4895. All of those work well in my .358 Winchester.

The little 6.5's, in either x52 or x54, are an underrated round. Once you get the bore size correct, in bullet weights from 129 and 140 up to 160 they are a versatile little cartridge, remember Bell shot Elephants with one !! The 6.5 is a larger case and has a greater powder capacity than a 30-30 Winchester ( we all know how successful they are...) in what is basically a better, stronger action.
A little bit of tweaking and the " Italian horror " can be a very smooth, accurate rifle.
Below is a pic of my Terni Carcano rebarrelled with a .264 barrel when I was making a new stock pattern for it.
