I booked my flight to Africa and the main leg is Atlanta to Johannesburg on Delta. I wanted to pass it along that you can buy a larger premium economy seat for just $199 more each way. I think most of us fantasize about sitting in first class but just can't afford it. This is an affordable option for me. Of course it is still 15 or 16 hours on one plane and that is only part of the journey!
If you have another international flight from Johannesburg you likely have to overnight in a hotel. What is everyone's experiences with airport hotels near Joburg airport?

One of the very few times I enjoy the fact that I'm on the shorter side is on a long flight!!! The extra leg room of the economy upgrade doesn't help me at all. LOL

I sat next to a 6'9" college basketball player once in coach and he had the middle seat and I had an aisle (I'm 5'9"). It was the only time in my life I've ever actually offered to switch to a middle seat. I made a friend instantly with that one!!! :)

Brickburn that is good to know because I am booked into City Lodge for my next trip. I have stayed at Peermont Metcourt Suites and it was nice but you have to wait on a bus to get to airport. Not so good if you have a 7AM flight. I want to be right there! The Intercontinental is fabulous (stayed there once many years ago so prob forgot more than I remember!) but extremely expensive. It would have been about $400 a night versus City Lodge at $140. The low price was another concern. Is it good, made, and close?
Is City Lodge walking distance?
Regards,
Philip

The City Lodge is quite close and easy walking distance from the Arrivals Hall. It is quite nice, clean & quiet. The only meal I ate there was the free breakfast which was so-so but filling.
Can't beat it for convinence.

Just past the Intercontinental outside of arrivals. See map.

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?
