I recently read the publicity around Zimbabwe offering a gold 1 oz bullion coin, the Mosi-oa-Tunya. I know South Africa also has the Krugerrand, Canada and the USA also have similar 1 oz bullion coins. It occurred to me that it would make a nice memento of your hunt. Not outlandishly expensive in the overall scheme of things and you could always convince yourself that it was really an investment :giggle:

Despite all the media articles on the Zimbabwe coin, no-one seems to be able to say where you can buy them, especially for international visitors. Likewise are there any other African safari destinations which produce a similar bullion coin?

when i was there i was going to buy a few krug,s, but bought gold jewery instead from a friends store. he made sure what i bought was real gold.

On my first safari in 1997 I bought my wife a neckace with a 1/10 oz Krugerrand. She wears it to this day. Yes these type of things can be great momentos.

Good plan! If the Zimbabwe coin is close in cost to the Eagle, Maple Leaf, etc coins then why not. While there, see if you can find some US paper $ and some of the Zimbabwe "slug" coins that were (are) being used. Don't know about now but in the not too long ago past a good number of US $2 bills were around. Some had been in circulation so long they were almost black. Would seem like an interesting display if kept along with the new gold bullion coin.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
