Hey guys,

I have a few days between the end of my hunt and leaving. I am hoping that the budget is blown by then, so I am looking for a place to chill and enjoy good food. I don't mind where but I still have to get back to Windhoek to fly out. Also, I will have at least one gun to tote around.

Would you let me know your thoughts on chill'n in Namibia?

Thanks.

Depends where you are hunting. Namibia is a big country.

Joe's in Windhoek if you are looking for a bar and restaurant, but if you really have a couple of days, go to Swakopmund on the coast. Seafood is fabulous and you can take a four-wheeler tour of the incredible red sand dunes - even go fishing. Well worth the trip.

And there is also Etosha - think Kruger with a lot fewer tourists.

I believe I am north of Windhoek, and a little West.

I looked at Swakopmund but was concerned about being that far from Windhoek. Google maps shows me a major road but I read an older post somewhere that the infrastructure is not that predictable. What is travelling back to Windhoek when I have to make the flight like? Dependable shuttles?

Great pictures btw! Looks like you had a wonderful time!

I will second Swakopmund, its very much worth seeing if your in that part of the world and worth the effort to see , very different from Windhoek. I was impressed by the sea food, which is saying something as I live in Victoria and regululary harvest from the bountiful ocean here abouts. I suspect your offiter will be able to tell you about the efforts involved in travel from Windhoek to Swakop. Id shoot him a email.
Cheers
Pat

Stellenbosch, O Portuga, Kubata are also places to eat in Windhoek. Joes seems to be the default answer but after 2 tries, ehh, guess it has cheap beer and lots of crap all over the walls if into that kinda thing.

I stayed at a guest house and did a nice little tour of major things in Windhoek with German expat who does this sort of thing. Rented car and did a couple day trips and enjoyed myself. Mostly scenery and a few places; nice with car return at airport.

I am thinking of going straight to Swakopmund and touring there for two or three days and then going to Windhoek for the remainder.

It seems Swakopmund has the best variety of activities that I could probably figure out once I am there and I know my actual budget ("budget" what a meaningless term when discussing Safaris);)

My concern is keeping it flexible and getting from Swakopmund to Windhoek. Are their shuttles or services I could use that folks are familiar with? Do the excursions in Swakopmund typically require advance bookings or could we pick it up as we go?

Hire a driver. Get a recommendation from a local outfitter.
It was a pleasure to be able to just watch the scenery in Namibia.

I am planning to go to Namibia next year (2019). I Don’t have the exact dates so haven’t put a deposit and locked in an outfitter yet, but getting close. I can’t wait to hear about your trip!
