More then a few years ago I picked up a 09 argentine mauser that was sporterized, like one of the cheap department store ones back in the day. It was just a simple stock and barrel chop that was chambered in 3006 using the 7.65 barrel. The magazine was opened up for 3006 already so went with 9.3x62 over making it a 7x57.
Last year sometime I picked up a in-stock barrel from shaw, it's 9.3x62 22" cm believe it's there #2.5 heavy sporter profile. Last week i finally got the old barrel off and tried the new barrel on and looks like it will fit fine. Still needs some work before I tighten it and finish ream the chamber.
I am still not 100% how i want this gun to be, if budget was not object I'd have a better idea but money is tight and only have limited tools.
For now I'd like to just get it in a stock and get some sights. Eventually I'd like to have it d&r for bases and have the bolt handle replaced along with a nice safety. I can't seem to find receiver drilling jig anywhere so need a smith for that, I don't know any gunsmith I could send it to so that will have to wait.
For sights I'd like the necg masterpiece banded front and there same rear sight but the size I believe I need aren't in stock and no idea when or if they will be. I could go with a non banded front sight but have it in my head one wouldn't look right. For the rear I fell the same way and having matching sights would be preferable.
For the stock I was thinking about a bell and carlson medalist but they kinda got a bit pricey, wouldn't mind wood or laminate but can't think of any pre finished ones I care for like a boyds, there just soulless and ugly to me.
There's richards micro fits, I've used them before but just don't feel like doing much stock work lately and belive there pretty long order times now.
tool for truing the bolt face and can be used for lapping the lugs.
lugs look great on this action
Have most of the work done on the bottom metal, needs a piece made for the floorplate release and a bit more shaping. I tried some rust blue I had to see how it worked.
So any idea on different sights anyone makes that are reasonable and stocks you would recommend, there's some carbon stock blanks out there but figured the weight of the bell and carlson would be nice.
