9.3x57 to 9.3x62

I'm considering rechambering an old "potato chunker" Husqvarna 9.3x57 to a 9.3x62. It is a Husqvarna FN military style (thumb cutout and stripper clip hump) 98 action.
Has anyone had experience doing this ?
Do you have any thoughts/considerations/suggestions/caveats/warnings ?

I don't think it would be a problem but you need to check - does the barrel contour have enough steel to handle the reaming forward of the chamber? Since it wasn't a military rifle, probably should be OK, but better to check vs. have it blow up in your face.

What an awesome post! USAMA84DAB, made some good points, and he's right but this is nothing a decent gunsmith couldn't tell you right off the bat.

My opinion is that I totally dig this idea! I may have to buy an old Husky to have this done!

I have done it and so have others. Mine was a Husky 98 large ring. No alteration needed for correct feeding. I did bed the action and added two crossbolts because of the greater recoil. Shoots great. It's my favorite rifle.

As stated, this is quite a common conversion. If you want a little more challenge then get serious and rechamber for 9.3X64 Brenneke. It is doable on most of these rifles.

I recently carried out this conversion on a 1926 Mauser Obnerndorf, and I could not be happier. I recommend you spring for some new wood as well!

Doable is a lot, but as I already wrote in the other topic, this is not a good idea, especially trying to turn a basic rifle caliber 9,3x57 into a high-performance rifle caliber 9,3x64. It does not surprise me that after such craftings many people consider the cartridge 9,3x64 Brenneke to be not particularly more powerful than the cartridge 9,3x62. You have to shoot the cartridge 9,3x64 in rifles designed for it and then you will notice the ballistic differences.

Totally agree, it does have a noticable advantage over teh 9.3X62. Mine is built on an Enfield action which is more than capable of handling the Brenneke cartridge.

But the 9.3X64Brenneke was designed specifically to function in a 98 Mauser. To quote Wiki,
"The 9.3×64mm Brenneke was designed to have the largest possible case capacity without any shape or dimensional drawbacks that would hamper its chambering and perfect functioning in Mauser Gewehr 98 rifles that were then standard issue in the German military and were also popular sporting rifles".

Agreed that there would need to be some work done on the feed but it can and has been done on all the original German rifles.

Why not look at how 9,3x57 is loaded by European users today (for use in Blasers etc)? And spend the money on bullets and powder?
