My favourite caliber
Vihtavuori works great for me, also you could find some good recipes in the Hornady manual, the only one who take care of our 8x68
Also powders like IMR4350, IMR 4831, Norma 204 and MRP come to mind

@dchamp has some pet loads as well I believe

My 8x68s is a Blaser R8 and it has a pretty long taper or throat. As an example: with a 180gr TSX, the bullet hits the lands at 3.766”oal. I seat the bullet at 3.425”oal, that’s a pretty good jump. For bullet weights 200gr and lighter RL-16 and VV N550 have been my top performers. I think any 4350 class of powder would do well there. For heavier bullets, I shoot 220gr SGK and 250gr Woodleigh RN, I use Alliant 4000MR.

These are my loads for my rifle so precaution is in order.

180TSX @ 3.425”oal
WLRM
68.5gr’s of either RL-16 or VVN550
Velocity range is 3025-3075fps +/_

220gr SGK @ 3.425”oal
GM215M
68.5gr’s 4000MR
Velocity 2780fps +/-

250gr Woodleigh RN @ 3.54"
GM215M
67.5 4000MR
Velocity 2570fps +/-

I used my Steyr SM12 8x68s for the first time last month on croc in Africa. Here is the load that produces 1/2MOA at 100 yards out of my 8x68s:

Projectile: Northfork 180gr SS
Powder: 72.0gr IMR4350
COAL: 3.590"
Primer: Fed215
Brass: Norma
Avg Vel: 3053fps

Hornady also has some loads from its 9th Edition manual...see below:

Thanks. That's quite the club you're shooting. What are we looking at? A real beauty.

Tagging this thread for future reference, I keep buying brass when I find it.

I recommend Bob at ravenrockprecision.com for Norma 8x68 brass. Bob is a great guy and a supporter of AH. I have bought all of my 8x68 brass from him. I just checked and it looks to be in stock now.

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
