Hi. I am trying to get some information on the approximate muzzle energy and velocity of my CZ Safari Classic 505 Gibbs.
I am using 2213SC ADI powder, which is equivalent to H4831.
The loads I'm using are 130 grains of 2213SC with a 600 grn Woodleigh Protective Point.
It seems a Very Effective load on Australian Buffalo.
Any info will be appreciated.
Baz.

You probably already have the Woodleigh book? It approximates 2125fps with 121 grains of 2213SC for the 600 grain PPSN.
Yeh Ben, I do have it, but there’s no ballistics for the extra 9 grains of powder, hopefully someone can work it out for me.

its not possible to accurately guess the velocity with such little information. i would recommend buying or borrowing a chronograph.

hi baz, nick Harvey's manual no 7 only lists a 525 gn bullet.
starting load is 132 gn,, 2260, which also appears to be max.
maybe this is because it fills the case before pressure happens?
it lists imr7828 the same way with140 gnat2240.
re22 133gn start at 2270 and 136 max at 2330.
sorry this is not the bullet wt you are using.
it looks like 2213sc might be about as fast burning as you want to go in that case particularly as the bullets get heavier.
re22 was available in oz, and might still be.
it could be worth a test on a chronograph against 2213sc in max loads.

Norma produces a .505 Gibbs cartridge loaded with a bullet weighing 600 grains . They list it's velocity as 2100 feet per second. They use metal envelope solid bullets from the firm , Woodleigh.

Baz, QuikLOAD says 2211 FPS & 6,512 Ft. Lbs. of energy. I assumed a 24 " barrel for this calculation. Hope this helps.

Cheers mate, I thought it might have been around 2250 FPS, and muzzle energy mid 6000’s. After using it I will stick with that load. Cheers Baz.

I have bullets, brass, and a set of rcbs dies, just no gun. Got the components for a good price and figured one day id come across a cz550, still waiting. I read on another thread I could get the 458 lott cz550 and have it rebarreled cheaper than ordering a 505 from cz

Baz500, the velocity is dependent on barrel length. If your barrel is over 24" in length the velocity & energy will be higher. But the load performs well. If you are satisfied with the accuracy, like you said I'd stick with it. I just reran QuikLOAD for a 25" barrel (that is what a CZ 550 should be) and got 2234 FPS and 6,650 Ft. Lbs. of energy. BTW this was based on using ADI 2213 not ADI 2213 SC. The program doesn't have the SC version listed. Maybe a later version will.

the old 2213 was burning rate close to imr4831.
replaced with 2213sc burning rate same as h4831.

Boz 500, based in info from Bruce Moulds the revised numbers are Vel. 2229 fps, Energy 6619 ft. lbs. Pressure is 41,216, max "allowable" pressure is 39,150.
If you want me to "run" other data, pls. let me know.

Thanks for the information guys, really appreciated.
I am really impressed with the 505's performance, and will be sticking to that load mentioned.
Baz.
