460 WBY Weatherby Custom For Sale

A 500 grain slug moving at 2700 fps out of the 460 does does a whole lot of damage... certaily more than the 2150 of the 458.

And though I use my one 458 that I built for many things I am the first to say that I consider it minimal at best for dangerous game even though it is equally or more powerful than many other rounds used for dg.

I went to the 460 and noticed that the disruption of flesh was massive compared to the 458 and that was due to the speed.

I got hold of a A-Square 577 T-Rex and with it's 750 grain slug moving at high speed it definately hit animals extremely hard and stopped them in their tracks.

I built myself an exciting 600 Overkill in the early 2000's and with 1000 gr custom bullets itis atrue giant slayer. But it never made it to africa. I did take it to Russia and shot an enormous brown bear about 10 feet away from my guide who was squating against a tree taking a dump at the time. The shot to the chest actually knocked the bear backwards and made him deader than Julius Ceasar. The bear had blood on his paws and muzzle when he took the smack down. He had killed and was eating 2 cubs right before he was sizing up my russian friend.
I totally agree on the devastating damage caused by big fast bullets at close range. I've seen it many times with my 460.

That is one gorgeous rifle. Back in the day when I was bulletproof, swift, silent, and deadly I had a friend with a .460. We got drunk one night and we shot the better part of five boxes up killing a great big rock. It didn't hurt so bad under the medicinal effects of Glenfiddich but the pain of the massive bruise that covered my entire right side from check to hip took effect the next morning, just in time for the Sergeant Major to make me feel really bad.
My limit now is further down the scale with my. 416 Rigby being just about the limit. I can take the big shove but those fast kickers like the. 460 just plain hurt!

Seems to me the solution for cartridges such as the 460 is a good handloading bench. It can be loaded with lighter loads of powder and bullet for extensive familiarization and function testing, then increasing the load until personal maximums are reached. One thing I have notices is that when I'm shooting at an animal I've felt no recoil with cartridges up to full load 375 H&Hs, so in a situation where a Cape buffalo has the larger part of your attention, the least of your concerns will be how much the rifle is going to recoil and with all of the muscle memory developed through the use of lighter loads and much range time you should have great results.

Awesome Story! I guess the guide was better off already doing the pooping or else he would have ruined his trowsers!! Wow..I got a deer like that as a teen but just not the same thing!
I had a few 460s and had one "Alaskanized" for a Moose/Caribou hunt..22" barrel and Brown precision stock..6.5 pds as barrel was turned down and stock was Kevlar..Kicked like a mule so added brake and got me a nice caribou...almost a big Moose but wrong side of the damn river!!
This 460 is very tempting as priced right but my latest 600 is almost done (my 6th one!)
Your right..its a killing machine and does Buffalo and Warhogs plus Zebra and giant eland in too! Like Hammer of Thor! lol
Good Luck with the sale..any ammo??
