Anyone have any experience with the 300 gr bullet in a 416 , looking to do some pains game after the buff hunt. thanks in advance.

I just kept using the 400gr TSX on PG. Did the job on kudu, waterbuck, impala, warthog and blue wildebeest x2. Simpler than rezeroing or a separate scope.

I have loaded some 350gr, and plan on using those --they hit a couple inches higher than the 400s, giving me a better hold out at distance. I see to 300s can be loaded to approx. 3000fps ---touch them out a long ways . lol

I have a box of them waiting to be loaded for my 416 rigby using h4350. Probably start around 95 grains and work my way up.

What type of info you looking for?

Just general information, how they performed ect, ect.

Gotcha, Ill post info on velocities and powder charge but dont have any plans in the short term to use them on game.

But from what I've heard as long as you keep tsx's above 2k fps they should perform well. I am expecting 2800fps+ with out punishing my brass to hard.

I have loaded the 300gr TSX to 2950-3000fps with H4350 (tough but doable) as well as with H4831SC… even shot smaller stuff like roe and fallow deer with it. Mainly used for bigger PG… Of course complete overkill but fun to have a load that can kill basically anything on earth… even at a distance.

Mind sharing your load data?

In August 2025, we did our first Plains Game Safari with Dirk de Bod in Namibia. I harvested 5 animals in 5 days with 5 shoots, including Eland, Sable, Gemsbok, Waterbuck, and Kudu. I used semi-custom Remington 700 chamber for the 300 RUM. I used hand loaded Barnes 180 grain TTSX bullets with 92.6 grains of Hodgdon powder. My chronograph told me I was running right at 3,200 fps. I shot 0.75 inch groups at 100 yards. Funny I didn't notice recoil on any of the shots.

All guns are different and effect of load data differs… but my best results were with H4831SC and close to 100% fill rate or even slightly compressed. Setting depth and crimp also affected the out come. Start low and build up you loads to measure what you get in your rifle.

Zero for 100 yards with your 400’s, that’ll give you good zero for the lighter bullets. I’ve never tried lighter bullets in my DG guns. I just stick with 400’s in my .416 and 300 in my .375. I like to keep things simple. But I’ll be interested in reading how it works out for you.

As I've posted before, a .416 300 grain TSX at 2800 fps is decisive:

Accuracy was the same as with the 400 grain bullet; excellent in my .416 Weatherby.

Had good luck with 350's and 416 rigby on plains game,....probably would go to 400gr for buff and elephant. I will mention that I shot an eland with this 350 load and a Barnes solid broadside at 110 yards, it didn't exit, it lodged in the bone of the offside shoulder. It was a big eland, assuming about the same would have happened on a buff

I'm a big fan of the 300gr .416 Barnes TSX and have shot a handful of game with it in a 416 RM Winchester M70.

I was pushing them at around 2700fps. Accuracy was excellent and performance on game was staggering! The warthog in my avatar was taken with this load and that's a 416 RM sitting on his nose.

My bad. 92.60 grains of Hodgden Retumbo Powder.

300 grs Barnes TSX loaded to 2700 fps in 416 Rigby. Excellent accuracy, good effect on deer.
