.375 H&H ammo recommendations for Cape Buffalo hunt

Uptade: Federal TTBC 300gr /20 are out of stock everywhere
Given your choices then I’d go with the 350 gr woodleigh softs. The extra 50 gr helps make up for being a softer bullet than bullets like swift or TBBC.

I just found a few boxes of federal factory 416 Rigby with 400TBBC about two weeks ago.... anyone have any experience with that combo

300 grain Barnes TSX loaded with 76 grains of Winchester 760, Federal 215 Mag primer. Mission completed.
Shot placement is your key to success. Practice, practice, practice...

I’ve used PPU .375 300 grn SP & I wasn’t impressed but at least I ended up with 200 cases.

PPU applied bitumen sealant between the bullet & the case neck (as with military RG for instance) & it left a residue in the throat area of the barrel & also needed solvent to clean it from the case.

For practice or even boar it may be ok but if I was going to Africa I’d be definitely be buying something else.

If anybody is interested, I have some 300 grain TBBCs for a 375 H&H, loaded by Federal I could part with if they were needed for an upcoming hunt. Just shoot me a PM and we can work something out.

I have a question: why not use a Barnes TSX 270 grs at 2600 to 2650 f/s or so instead a heavier ones? Would not penetrate more than enough? And the "danger" to pass throught the bufalo and wound another would not be minimized?

On 2 of my last safaris the PH told me they had more issues with pass through of Barnes 270 grain TSX than they did with 300 grain TSX.

Thank you Andrew.

I think is rather strange what the PH told you. I was told by other hunters and PHs the opposite. But, of course, I cannot say nothing about that.

Best!

It sure does seem strange doesn't it? I would have thought the exact opposite. Hopefully, someone with greater knowledge of this than me will come along and give their input.

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?
