Gday all,
I have picked up some 130gr Woodleighs to try in my Ruger No1 .303.
Would any Aussies (or others) have any load data for the AR powders? Nothing in the Woodleigh manual.
Cheers Alby

@alby

You’ll want page 125

Not page 270

;)

Many many years ago I use 135gn Taipan hollow points in an old No1 Mk111 for hunting pigs.
I don't know what speeds they were doing back then but the used to knock the snot out of any pig the hit

A good load from load from a disc is.

As you can see you can quite easily get 3,000 fps with that bullet when loaded to 51,000 cup in that No1. That should knock the snot out of any pig, goat, deer or donkey you come across. For bigger stuff nice 215gn Woodleigh rnsp @2,400-2,500 fps would work well. Dang I would even use that on scrubbers.
I load my 25-303 improved to those pressures in my P14 and get good case life with zero pressure problems
Stoke that Ruger up and go have fun

Gday Bob,
Thanks for your detailed response. I got a gunsmith to put express sights on my .303 and wanted them regulated for the 215gr Woodleighs (love the Woodleighs!) but they wouldn't group so we settled for 174 gr. And she loves those. Ive loaded up some different loads from the Woodleigh manual to trial the 130grs and see how they shoot.
Be good pig medicine I reckon!
Cheers Alby.

In case you are wondering Benchmark is BM2, H4895 is AR2206H, Varget is AR2208. Yes both are in the Woodleigh manual.

The 215s should group well, try stoking it up a bit with some 2209.
But as you know every rifle is a law unto itself.
My sons 308 absolutely hates anything 165-168 but everything else is fine.
I still have a couple of hundred of those old taipans and they shot well. I must be getting old as I used to hydraulic decap ex mill brass, RWS berden primers and Noble rifle powder 1 or 2 on an old 3station simplex press. That combination killed a lot of game.

where are you located? I would be happy to help you with you doing the reloading but I will only load for a very few real close friends as posted before liability is the problem. but will help you.
