So, I'm about 30 days out (35 I guess) from heading down to Argentina to do a big game hunt I purchased at an Auction last March. I plan to chase some red stag, maybe a black buck and my Dad is going with me as well (he can't decide on Buff or Stag since it's the Roar). We plan to spend at least a day doing wing-shooting as well (can't goto Argentina and not shoot at some doves!)

My questions are:
Anything I should know specific to hunting in Argentina (Hunting with TGB Outfitters in LaPampa)? Seems pretty straight forward, but I figured if anyone had some tips that would be great.

Anything I should do in Buenos Aires on my return? We will have 2 days there and I'd love any insider tips on where to eat, shop, play, etc.

Never been there, but I’m very envious! Have a great time!

Man have a great time and send us some pictures!

I plan to! I just turned on my international plan on my cell - Those of you with Verizon, they have an awesome plan. $10/day to use your US plan in 150 countries. Data and everything will follow me there, so you don't end up with weird calling plans, etc - if you use the plan, it's $10 for the day. Don't use your phone, no charge.

Wish I could help, haven't been yet, YET being the key word!! I'm jealous.

Enjoy and good luck, we look forward to the report!

Go to Rojo Tango Show. Comes with dinner, it's awesome. Go and see the La Recoleta cemetery. Yeah I know that sounds weird but we walked around in there for an afternoon. There is also a world class art museum in the Recoleta district close to the cemetery.

Mike that’s a better plan than I have used in the past. Thanks for the info.

If your a fly fisherman there's golden dorado to be caught right outside BA.

My wife and I did a 4 day “cast and blast” in November in Argentina...

I’m not much of an angler, but thought I would give the “cast” part of the trip a try...

I have to admit, for me at least, catching golden dorado on the parana river was probably the most fun of the entire trip..

If you have an opportunity, I definitely recommend trying to get a little fishing in.. they have some world class opportunities there..

You guys aren’t helping my budget... . I’ve sent a couple emails now to fishing guides near BA!

If you're there during the roar, most definitely concentrate your hunting time on stags. It would be a real shame if your dad were to forgo stag in the roar in favor of those subspecies feral water buffalo.

I think that’s the reason he’s leaning stag. I’m trying to convince him to do Buff in Africa in 2020 with myself and my oldest son.

Practice drinking to much wine !!!
Just a thought !

You will have a great Red Stag hunting in my Country Mike.....that´s for sure......you will get surpriced about red stag rut......enjoy it, trust in your guide and live a real hunt.........try to get some things done in Buenos Aires.....it deserves and worth the time if you spend some in the city........

Good luck and We gonna be waiting for the pics.......!!!!.........(y)

Mike...............................You will have a great time. There are some good suggestions in this thread. If hunting is your only goal, as for many visiting this website, read no further. If interested in another culture, BA is a good place to start. I would suggest you watch the movie "Evita" before walking around in La Recoleta Cemetery, visiting Eva Maria Duarte, and seeing the Casa Rosado. The large tango shows are awesome, Rojo probably the best, but I like Cafe Tortoni and the wooden chairs and floor.............order a bottle of Malbec and you are seeing 1955 in person. Have dinner at Casino Club.....you should be hunting near there. Exchange rate is 21:1 so a dollar goes a long way. It was 3:1 on my first visit. See Teatro Colon (Three Sisters will be playing while you are there), and have dinner at an outdoor restaurant., definitely do a city tour.......Oh, and try to fit in some hunting.....Best of luck .......FWB

Good steaks and sangria, how can you go wrong. BA is great, wife and I had lots of fun. Tango shows, seafood on the water and don't forget at the exchange rate you should be able to score big on leather products.

Thanks for helping me spend my money guys (but really, thanks for the idea to go fishing!!!) (y)(y) I just booked with Nervous Waters to go fishing out of BA on Sunday before we leave. I figured Sunday was a good day since fish don't care what day of the week it is, but shops do! I've been told, while we should get in some reasonable Dorado fishing, it's not the prime spot (because it's near BA in the delta and harder to fish) but it's a day trip and the price is right! I figure a bad day fishing is better than a good day in town!

10 Days to Argentina! :Woot:

Brush up on your Spanish. Some of the major players you'll be hunting with will speak English as a second language. The majority of those you encounter won't speak or understand a single word you say.

On thing to know about is SCI scoring if your stag hunt is pay by size, many operators have a generous tape when it's in their favor.

I’m doing free range, it’s flat rate, biggest we can find. I don’t like paying per inch on hunts. I want to hunt hard, find something good and take it.
