I picked up a Simson 20 ga double rifle that had been converted from a 12 Ga Simson shotgun by the late Bob Hayden. @crs was a personal friend on Bob and he put me in contact with the family and I was able to purchase it from the estate. Finally got time to get the new rifle out to the range and shoot it. I bought some Winchester slugs to just try until I acquire the necessary components to load what the rifle is regulated with. The factory slugs shot better than I expected. a 4 shot group into 3 1/2 inchs at 50 meters about six inches below the sights. It has fully rifles barrels and a set of scope bases. I plan on trying a red dot. All in all very please with it so far.

Good looking gun Dave! Glad when our guys get deals!

Dave, it seems you have an endless supply of cool stuff!

I am glad the rifle is a shooter.
Does 20 gauge = 72 caliber?

Dang!

PS Please be sure to let Marie know how well the rifle shoots.

@crs It is a fun rifle to shoot:-)

No a 20 ga is 62 cal same diamater as a 600 nitro.

72 is a 12 ga.

I use a 12 bore round ball muzzle loader as my elk rifle.

Just a 600 NE sized bullet? I should have known that. Big holes to follow!
A south Texas hunting buddy of mine shoots a black powder double in 20 gauge for birds. It is a nice looking and well balanced gun.
Last fall when we were meat hunting on a ranch north of Victoria, TX, one of his sons wanted to take his deer with it rather than archery, so Joe took him out for a few practice shots with round balls- kid did well. That evening , he blew a football sized hole in the chest of a whitetail doe. No tracking or meat damage.
Just get close and sock it to them!

Dave.
In your gun pix above, I can barely make out the side clips, but the pic is a bit fuzzy and I can not see the cross bolt or loaded chamber indicator.
Are they there?

That's an interesting firearm. Are you sticking to reloads exclusively? I wonder what it would do with Lightfields.

@crs Yes they are there, need to work on my photographic skills:ROFLMAO:

@Hogpatrol I will try some more factory loads, the Winchester were the only one available locally. I will most likely shoot 75% handloads and 25% factory.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
