Hello all,
A friend of mine has been hunting and shooting for many years, but somehow managed to completely avoid handguns o_O. Now he wants to remedy it and 1911s really catched his eye. But there is a conundrum: How to explain a newbie what’s the difference when all 1911s look the same and prices range from hundreds to thousands of USD?
Because we both like movies I tried to match some 1911 models to movie characters/actors, see below.

What would be Your idea of the best movie characters=1911 models match?

Note: we usually tend to think of firearms in feminine, but I started with Coonan .357, so Conan the Barbarian came to mind and I stuck with male actors for the first batch. Feel free to choose anything from movie pallet: film Noir, Marvel, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.
It is intended as fun, so please treat it as such ;):D

John Wayne - Colt 1911A1 45ACP

I know that database - handy tool when You are curious what exact gun they use in the movie :)
However do not forget that somebody using something doesn't mean it suits him :D Or maybe even that he is well-suited to use it

The right question is:
If You think of a certain 1911 to be a person = what character/actor would it be?
BeeMaa nailed it ;)(y)

Well I'm sure John Wayne would only shoot a colt gold cup. John wick maybe a Clark ,or Giles custom .Clark has that hotrod 45acp round 460 roland.but remember all colts have real value and pre80s have even more.i only mess with 70 series and below national match gold cups.take any gold cup to a gun show and watch the dealers eyes light up.not so much with Kimber etc. The best 45. movie workout is sgt major Basil Plumley's portrayal in we were soldiers.that guy fought in four major battles that they made movies about why they don't make a movie about him.sorry off course.

What are we gonna assign to Jon Wicked ?

Thats easy.

Springfield Armory Loaded MC Operator - .45 ACP
Kimber 1911
Smith & Wesson SW1911SC "E-Series"
Kimber Warrior
Kimber Super Carry

Wilson combat makes one of the best 1911. Next would be nighthawk. If you want to save money you can build your own!!! Which is awesome. You can buy a lower from any FFL and all the other parts online. Best handgun ever designed

Whether a space gun, race gun or dedicated carry peice, no one makes a better 1911 than SVI. Pistols so good, they don’t need an actor.

If I have to pair this gun to someone, let’s go with Donald Trump. He’s been in movies. Two dollar gas and a secure border would be pretty nice right about now. With a crap load of beer and plenty of ammo, I could secure 100 yards of border all by myself with this little space gun.

As far as 1911 racers go, I’d look into this:

Looks great, but not practical off the range. For hunting, self defense or duty carry any 1911 style, regardless of brand is the only way to go. Single stack, double stack, standard or extended mag in any caliber. Some people snivel about the thumb safety but after a few rounds it's an unconscious move to flip it off. As soon as you clear leather the thumb automatically swipes the safety on the way to the grip as soon as target is in the sights.

1911s are the safest handgun going. With 3 safeties (grip, thumb, and hammer) they are nearly 100% idiot proof. I say nearly because there is always someone who will find a way to screw up the works.

Plus, they are just about indestructible. A minimum of parts and built rugged. A dab of oil here and there and you are good to go for anything. And the 1911 platform is the most copied of any handgun for over 100 years.

If I sing the praises of 1911s, it's because I have a love affair with them dating back to 1960 when I qualified with an old Govt rattletrap that I thought was going to fall apart in my hand. I've shot about everything out there but always come back to 1911s. Simple, foolproof, effective and totally reliable.

LOL. I had a surplus 1911A1 that sounded like a coffee can of nuts and bolts if you shook it. But it always went bang and I cut my "hand gunning" teeth with it. Of course I sold it...that's the end of the story.

The one I started with was a 1911 out of the armory for us boots to qualify with. The old spur hammer and tiny sights. It was "well used", had little finish on it and, yes, sounded and felt like a can of rocks but it did shoot. It had been around and would have been very interesting to hear of the action it had been through. Seems like no matter the condition, most all will shoot pretty well. Minute of bad guy is usually good enough for most work.

Get a Springfield Loaded. Run it hard for 2k rounds or so. If it does not hiccup after the first 200 or so, it's GTG. If not, send it to a 1911 Pistol Smith.

Nothing is better than a 1911 that runs 100% reliable.
Nothing is worse than a mass produced (but pretty!) 1911 that isn't 100%.

I have a Dan Wesson Pointman 7 in 10mm, it's a very nice pistol but I don't think I'd pay the $1700 that they want for them these days. That kind of money, you're most of the way to an Ed Brown.
