10 Days Fair Chase Namibia Plains Game Hunt 2026!!!!

I have gone through Ethiopia and South Africa. Both have there plus and minus. After 6 round trips, my experience has them equal with hangups. I or my ammo has spent an extra day in transit twice.
What were the hang ups in Ethiopia? I was considering that way also?

Now if only there was a direct flight from the US to Windhoek, so we didn't have to go through another place to make it really easy.
True, but I enjoyed staying the night at Africa sky lodge in Johannesburg
It was nice after a 15 hour flight and getting in late to just drive 10 mins. Open bar, showered, and lamb chops.

Then nice coffee and breakfast and get on a short flight to Namibia. Get to Windhoek at lunch time.

I liked this over the Qatar route I took to Namibia last time.
Staying over night in SA isn’t that bad and a good start to your trip

Short connections for US travelers, very busy airport, and a strange gun re check process.

Lots of close calls for many people. My travel agent said it’s possible…. But let’s not haha.

@kfreeze , my flight leaving Windhoek was 4 hours late. Missed my connection back to the USA therefore had to overnight in Ethiopia. They paid for room and all meals.

I liked going through Cape Town. My travel lady got me set up with just enough layover so it wasn't bad that way for me. I'd rather get there fast personally.

I had the same experience with them. Missed connecting flights in and out. The food I had at the hotels was really good though.

I like the Washington-Dulles to Cape Town flight the best, but the only time I flew that route our luggage was not put on the plane to Windhoek.

I’m flying from Boston through Frankfurt to Windhoek. Long layover in Germany but no overnight or 3rd flight to take. We will see how it goes. Not taking guns as it’s only a 7 day plains game hunt, don’t feel the need.

I wanted to go that way the last time, but found out that the rifle fees were really high.

He is now speaking about Lufthansa or flying through Germany/Frankfurt with firearm. You do have to pay for it on that specific route.
Yup, that’s why I’m not taking guns, just a lot of money plus oversize bag fees

You can fly through Qatar without the gun fees but you will stop in Doha and Joburg which is a looonggg flight. At that point, just fly Delta through Joburg.

The big reason why I'm not taking guns is I cant fly from a local international airport with a firearm directly overseas without some hassle (I live in Connecticut). When I hunted DG in Zim, I flew from Hartford, to Chicago, to Doha to Harare and it took 41 hours, all because JFK and Boston hates guns.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.
