DSC Congratulates Ryan Zinke on Nomination for Secretary of Interior

DALLAS - The Dallas Safari Club (DSC) congratulates Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke on his recent nomination to lead the Department of Interior. Zinke will be charged with protecting the natural resources of the U.S., which includes federal lands and overseeing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. DSC is pleased to see the position filled by an ardent proponent of continued access to public lands and a champion of conservation.

"DSC has supported Representative Zinke since his first run in Congress," said DSC Executive Director Ben Carter. "He symbolizes the DSC mission of ensuring the future of hunting through conservation and protecting hunter's rights. We are excited to see how he handles the critical issues facing wildlife and wild places. Our membership respects and appreciates his dedicated service to this Nation as a former Navy Seal and as a Congressman. He has proven to be a straight shooter in all aspects, and we look forward to working with the newly nominated Interior Secretary."

Zinke is a native of Montana and has a lifelong love of hunting and fishing. During his time in Congress, Zinke has a track record of backing hunter's rights. He announced his support for the Sportsmen's Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Enhancement Act, which contained seven provisions to reauthorize or implement ways to fund conservation programs on federal and private lands.

In a released statement, Zinke stated, "As inscribed in the stone archway of Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, Montana, I shall faithfully uphold Teddy Roosevelt's belief that our treasured public lands are 'for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.' I will work tirelessly to ensure our public lands are managed and preserved in a way that benefits everyone for generations to come."

"Zinke is a sportsman just like the members of DSC," said Carter. "His heart lies in the same place as ours and we feel he is the perfect person to direct management of our lands and wildlife. This is a great step in ensuring the future of hunting, fishing and the outdoor life for upcoming generations."

Hunters and all those committed to defending our hunting heritage acknowledge his patriotism and are thankful for his willingness to serve as Secretary of the Interior. As a state legislator and member of Congress, Ryan Zinke has compiled a clear record of support for sportsmen and women. The threats to hunting heritage have multiplied in the last few years and include the erroneous presumption that bureaucrats in Washington, DC know best how to manage wildlife conservation resources. For many years, Ryan has stood with hunters for greater access and for wildlife conservation policies based on sound science instead of emotion. As a westerner, Ryan also understands the need for states to manage their resources in line with the most sounds scientific principles and best practices. I hope this man removes all the anti hunters on the payrolls of the interior dept. That being said I'm sure it will be a slow slog back to what is fair and equitable to American hunters.

I hope he comes to realize the STUPIDITY of the previous 8 years, and pushes for control of grizzlies, and allowing trophies to be imported based on SCIENCE not internet blogs

This is certainly a step in the right direction.

I hope there are some significant changes in policy. Scientific and factual data used, instead of emotional over-reaction based on internet and liberal media polls/opinions.

Okay, don't shoot the messenger here, but the guy is nominated and not yet confirmed. The dirty laundry is yet to be aired. Here's the first bit of dirt:

Say what they will he's hopefully a great choice. Now we need a Trump to oversee USFW.

This should be a move in the right direction.

If we get nothing but follow the international communities (CITES) it will be a great leap forward. Especially since we have signed up and agreed to it.

As a past member of service I can say, you get caught lying you get punished. Period , talked to several CO,s and it was echoed, they carried record of punishment on the way to the top. That story doesn't hold water
