When the road got to us we used the winch on the Land Cruiser to roll him over into a brisket position for more photos

As it was near the end of the day, we left a guard with the elephant, and came back at first light for recovery and meat distribution. The community showed up in their donkey carts and with their buckets and sacks for meat.

The next day we removed the tusks for more photos, and did the weigh-in. The biggest tusk weighed in at 61 pounds, and the other one at 59 pounds. I felt incredibly lucky that this was the biggest bull taken by Buzz and by CMS this season. For my first elephant safari, this was a real stroke of good fortune, and the credit goes to Buzz and his amazing team: Criton, Nyati, and Eddie.

The Main Camp at Maitengwe is fabulous; truly the most comfortable safari camp I've ever been in. But The Alamo was just a great experience; wouldn't have changed a thing.
