I leave for Zambia on my 1st elephant bow hunt!! I have been looking forward to this hunt for over 5 years and now the time has arrived. I’m getting gear ready and last minute shooting of my bows. I’ll be bringing 2 bows for this trip. One for the elephant, hippo or buffalo and the other for plaines game. This is my elephant setup shoot at 20,30,40 and 50.

I would love to hear some more details about the setup. Bow? poundage? DL? Arrow weight? Broadhead? Speed?
And most importantly, best of luck.

AWESOME! Looking forward to hearing all about it :D Cheers:

Looking forward to hearing more about your setup and hunt

Can't just wind a gear junkie up like that and not give any details! What does a bow set up for DG hunting look like especially for elephant!

Awesome…
Tell us about your set up…
The archery shop by an old beach house of mine did Tom Miranda’s when he did his.
I seem to remember it was like 90 pounds shooting a 1000 grain heavy arrow with a solid two blade broad head

Let’s go Dude!

Gonna be awesome

Following are you going to do a seperate post about the hunt or just continue with this one.
Happy travels and may the wind be blowing in your face all the time.

Sorry about that lol

Hoyt RX9
30in draw at 83lbs

Axis 200 spine, Ethics Insert and collar 100g, Ironwill Double bivel single blade broadhead 250g.
Total 824g. I decided to go with the 824g for muiltple reasons.

Arrow 824g -240fps 105.3 KE .877M

Arrow 848g -236fps 105.3 KE. .888M

Arrow 872g -233fps 105.6 KE .901M

Arrow 922g -226fps 104.63 KE. .924M

Besides the numbers, it’s important that your
Arrow impacts the animal 100% straight. No flexing and with the nock completely behind the broadhead.

Your set up has higher KE but the heavier arrow in your chart has more
Momentum. Momentum is more important than KE.

Sorry about that lol

Good Luck! Gonna be excitedly waiting to see and read your hunt report.

Who’s the PH and what area?

Sorry, Sickness but I don’t agree with the whole KE and Momentum debate but truthly I don’t want to have a large debate on this topic. Lol

We do agree on the arrow being tuned perfectly. I shot the different setups and the setup I chose tuned the best so that was another factor in my decision.

Unfortunately, if I hit a rib square in the middle it isn’t going to matter what i setup I’m using.

Thank you for the LIKE on my old post. It brought back memories as I lost her a year and a half ago, at 18+ years.
