Thompson Center TCR, Aristocrat, 83 or 87??

I have been collecting 83's and 87's. I have one magnum receiver, and complete rifles in .22 Hornet, .223, .22-250, .243, .270, 7mm-08, 7mm Rem Mag, .30-06, .405 Win, .45-70, and 12 gauge smoothbore (slugs).

I love these rifles; they are accurate, light, and break-down for easy carry/transport. I have some extra barrels: .223 (1), .243 (1), .270 (2), 7mm Rem Mag (2), and .30-06 (3). I was thinking I might send a couple off to JES to have them rechambered/rebored, but have yet to make the call. Some of the calibers I am interested in, considering, are .250 and .300 Savage, .35 Remington, .358 Win (or .35 Whelen), .338-06, .375-06, .416 Taylor. I am not entirely certain I want a .338 Win Mag, or a .375 H&H; the. 405 and .45-70 are tolerable, but I think the recoil velocity of the .338 Win Mag might be a bit much in a light rifle like this. I am interested in your thoughts.

I actually talked to the SSK industries guy about 20 years ago about them. I couldn't tell you anything remarkable, but he said they had stopped supporting them as they were a pain in the ass.

TC also came up with a falling block single shot, but it never came to market.

Currently in production of similar form, but not completely function:

Blaser K95
Krieghoff Hubertus
Merkel Kipplauf series
Sabatti has had one on and off
There are a couple of other Italian ones in the $1500-3500 price point, I don't remember all of them.

All of these have historical versions as well.

Most of the ones made in America had an exposed hammer.

The Russians also had one made by Baikal.

A bit of thread dredge here guys, but I had quit looking for one of these, but as often happens I stumbled on one the other day on GB with a TC Custom shop .35 Whelen barrel on it and after cogitating for some time about it I decided to get it headed my way.
Only drawback AFAIK is the lack of a scope mount so am on the lookout for a scope mount setup for this.
Appreciate any info on it or as Trump would say, "thanks for your attention to this matter!":ROFLMAO:

If your looking for bases for the TC Aristocrat, those are completely different then the TCR 83/87.

Redding part no. JR TCR 511291; Thompson Center A

My rifle is an 87, but I understood that the Aristocrat was simply the fancy wood version of the 83 series.

You are correct... the aristocrat was a deluxe version of the TCR 83.

BUT... TC also called a version of their pistol the aristocrat as well. So be careful because the pistol version is the same as the contender, omega etc.

So TC Aristocrat and TCR Aristocrat can be 2 different guns completely.

I guess... just saying be careful as I was all set to buy a set of bases because they were for a TC Aristocrat and the guy sent me a pic and the mounting holes were right down the center of the base. I was like what the???

I just bought a TCR Aristocrat with a 35 whelen and a 22 hornet barrel.

If anybody is looking for a nice .30-06 barrel, with Burris rings and base, and a T/C 3-9x40 scope, I have it listed on GB.
PM me for the listing # or have a glance at GB, its easy to find.

Was playing around with my set last night. Was hopefully trying to fit them all in one case... but LOL... too many barrels. I have been thinking about selling mine. I dont know why... when I pick one of them up... I realize just how nice they are. Not like i havent shot anything with them either. The 9.3x74R took a BIG cow moose. 7mm RM took a nice mule deer. 223 took a whitetail doe. My trouble is... i kind fell more in love with a Blaser K95 in 300 Wby that I picked up. Heres a pic of my set. Luckily... i managed to find bases for all of the barrels (the 220 swift barrel doesnt have it mounted yet). I need to grab some rings for one base yet.

Hi Scott. I'm curious, as you seem to like guns I find interesting. Was the Aristocrat not what you expected? Pros and cons, because I have considered getting one from time to time.

Being new to it I had to feel my way. Both barrels of mine shoot well, but I have several '06 rifles so will just keep the .35 Whelen.
Only thing I found that sort of surprised me is the amount of force it takes to push the lever over to open the action, it takes a concerted effort but once that is known its less of an issue. I thought it might be a real pain on the bench but it isnt.
But it must be pushed ALL the way over, no half measure will do. Other than that I like the rifle they are very nicely made and have tight chambers.

A friend commented the same thing to me. I kind of called him a baby as to me its not that bad at all... but when you open it... you are cocking it as well.

Noah,
I might be interested in the 470 Woodleigh Softs if the price is right for the entire lot. Are you planning on going to the Tulsa Gunshow in November? If so, perhaps we could meet up.
