After being scammed on AH on a previous sale . I am still looking for these bullets for my upcoming Ele hunt with Buzz. I have plenty of 404 Jeffery ammo but not the Woody's with no tips.

I don’t see those anywhere but if you hand load midway has the breakaway solid available. I was looking at them the other day. That’s what I plan to use for my elephant with CMS in 2028.

thanks for the heads up , I am pretty confident that i can find some

Why are you so set on having the woodleigh hydros? I’d think you want to move to something currently in production like cutting edge solid? There’s nothing better or worse about the woodleigh than a lot of comparable solids.

I agree that the Cutting Edge Brass solids are a spectacular bullet and are readily available. Those will handle your elephant from any angle with your 404 J. Buzz will be happy you chose them.

Well i am not sure how to reply but you make a good point.

If you don’t have a particular reason for wanting to use I wouldn’t get too hung up on them. I can’t link it here, but there’s a good podcast episode where Buzz says bullet discussions bore him all modern solids are good. I think woodleigh hydros mostly got their good reputation from being easily available in federal factory ammo for long time rather than being better than other solids.

@aminkus my friend, @375Fox is 99% accurate on all subjects discussed on this site :)
You should accept his wisdom.

Further, our @michael458 designed the Cutting Edge Bullets' Safari Solid and Safari Raptor bullets. Their solid's with its 67% meplat underwent extensive testing for both depth and straight line penetration. Michael posted many of his test results on this forum. Searching for and studing his posts will provide a crash course in ballistics / bullet performance. There may be equals to CEB Safari Solids, but I seriously doubt there is anything better.

If you were loading for a more logistically available .416 or .458 bore, I'd send you Safari Solids to try. But since you need the .423 bore, here are your best choices,

".423 diameter 400 grain Safari Solid™ hunting bullet designed for 404 Jeffery Rifles. Design incorporates 3 + 1 band configuration for reduced barrel strain. It has the 67% Meplat BBW#13™ nose profile which has proven to give the deepest penetration of any bullet tested to date."

or their .423 diameter 350 grain Safari Solid

I have some Barnes flat nose brass solids in 400 grains. If you are interested.

Either of these would be fantastic choices and would work great on anything you’d hunt with them.

Curious why not use CEB solids?

The reason I ask I have used what you are asking for and they are far being “the end all be all”. CEB are far better in my experience and easy to get

Dr Kevin Robertson swears by them and everything i have read and heard about them is just golden
Are you looking for woodleigh hydros or woodleigh FMJ solids? I believe his recommendation was for the heavy for caliber FMJ solids not the hydros. Woodleigh hydros are a monolithic solid with the plastic tip. Two really different bullets.

I’ll be at Northernshooters on Tuesday picking some other items up and then returning stateside next Friday. He shows them as in stock? Need me to bring some back?
would you mind private messaging me
Thanks

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
