28 ga the most underrated and fun shotgun you will ever shoot

Last week in Seymour TX, I shot my first limit of doves with a 28g! My average was just as good (or bad) as with a 12g. Mine is a Browning Citori Ultra XS sporting with 30” barrels. Swings wonderfully and has very little recoil. I’m in love.
 
Speaking for myself I find no reason to go to a smaller guage than 20

I have been shooting 12 guage slugs since I was 14. Guess this is good news for those that like sub 20 guage as I won't be competing to buy one

I have that exact gun and it’s mate in .410 both with 30” tubes. Hardest hitting .410 I’ve ever seen as browning did an extreme overbore on those guns.
 
Just dusted off my SBE3 in prep for the teal opened Saturday. Shooting bismuth it’s a killer on mallards in the timber, as well. Have my eye on an AYA #2 for quail.
 
PSA has Heritage "Badlands" SXS on sale for $399. That's less than 50% of normal cost. It is Turkish and the AI Overlord gives it a great review. The sale is about over, so check it out. (I have no experience with them, but for $399 I might!)
 
Those are pretty good used a 20 ga one in Ak till I got biakal 20 ga sxs .I will try to get one.
 
@WAB you might want to look at Vintage doubles, Kirby has a couple 2 in 12's in stock.
 
My go to bird gun is a Caesar Guerini Woodlander in 28G.

It’s been a long time since I participated in AH discussions. Just found this thread. I didn’t realize how many people enjoy shooting the 28 ga. I’ve been using one for about three years now and love them for skeet, grouse and doves. Recently picked up 2 Citori White Lightnings in 28 and 410. I suppose I’ll eventually sell my Citori Hunter 28 because the WL’s are so nice. Can’t wait to read all of the posts in this thread!
 
I hope I get to go to Montana and South Dakota bird hunting with one or two of my 28 ga shotguns .I wish more kids started hunting with them its way better than a 410 and kicks less thsn a 20 ga .I am working on getting a sxs 28 ga .I like them because they are way lighter snd the shells are smaller .I used 20 ga sxs the whole time in Alaska grouse and ptarmigan hunting .The sxs worked in colder temps down to -50 with no problems .I want to hunt pheasants have never hunted them .I bought a bunch of high brass 28 ga 1oz number 6 shells .In Alaska tjr grouse and ptarmigan had super thick feathers had to use number 5 shot in 20 ga to kill them dead .I wish my model 24 win sxs waa 28 ga .I have two of them in 20 ga and can hit everything I shoot with them .
My birddog is 5.5 years old needs to get on some birds GA has no wild birds left .You have to walk 200 miles to see one grouse these days .
 
Anyone on this thread interested in buying a 3yo Citori Hunter with 28” barrels and 5 choke tubes (F, MOD, IC, SK & SK)?

If not, I’ll put it up for sale at my gun club when I get back from bear hunting.

Yeah if all goes well going to pick up a awesome little sxs 28 ga this week .I missed the last one .There needs to be some awesome youtubes and articles written about the 28 ga .This will be the one I wanted for a while .Its 5.5 pounds what I was looking for .I passed on a 6.8 pound one just want a light one to tote a long ways .My dad would have loved one of these .He loved his 1100 rem 20 ga and could hit like crazy with it .The 20 ga is awesome I just wanted some good 28 ga shotguns that were light and shot well .
I have got to find some good places to grouse hunt very few here in Ga .I have got to take my dog Dakota shes 5 and half years old loves to hunt .I am going to take her to montana next year just wish I could find somewhere this year .

That is not an Echols rifle but a clone as it has the Echols stock and all the bells and whistles. Lon Paul who built the rifle does great work.
