@Hunter-Habib mentioned on my newly acquired Rigby Highland Stalker in .275 post that the rifle has a shorter throat. He said it handles 140-156 grain very well, but 175's and above will not close in the chamber correctly. I have asked him for additional info, but does anybody know if 160 Grain A-frames will work? They are between the ranges that HH mentioned. I am only concerned because I have already ordered some .275 Rigby Headstamped rounds with the Swift 160's.

Also interested for my Ruger No.1.

Ruger No 1 does not have the shorter throat. That rifle can handle the 175's. It's the Rigby Highland Stalker that has the shorter throat.

I bought three boxes of the 160 gr A Frames from Hendershots with the stamped .275 Rigby brass to use in my Ruger M77 Hawkeye .275 but haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. Also got two boxes of 160 Gr accubonds to try as well. I think the Ruger should shoot them fine. Will be interested to hear if the HS shoots the 160’s ok

I did. I just do not want to take a reamer to a brand new Rigby. If they won’t shoot out of my Highland Stalker. I can use them in my Ruger No1 and just use my 140s in the Rigby. I’m just seeing if anybody knows if they will work or not.

I find it strange that a company would have a rifle built that would not accept all commercially available ammunition. My Rigby is from the 1920’s and happily digests everything.

Yes it does have the blurb on the receiver stating that it is regulated for 140gr HV ammunition. Regulated means that the sights are regulated for that ammunition. It has nothing to do as far as I am aware with the chamber, throat or barrel of the rifle. However it shoots Nosler 175gr ammunition extremely well.

I am extremely embarrassed for the late reply. Our time zones are very different. Please check your inbox. I have sent you a message explaining everything.

Hi,

As Sika98k say, the original Rigby 7 mm Mauser-275 bore, were "only" Mauser barreled actions imported by Rigby, even already with sights and regulated for 173 or 140 grs bullets. Period. The chamber and lenght to the begining of the lands were exactly the same. Mauser made only one type of barrels for the 7 mm Mauser.
The first Ruger M77 and Nr 1 rifles had the original long "free bore" until 2000 or so. After that, Ruger made these barrels with much shorter chamber leads, half the lenght, or so, of the original.
Perhaps the actual Rigbys High Velocity follow that trend.
It is a wrong way, to me. I have two 7 mm Mauser rifles, one an Original DWM sporting with M1893 action, and the other a 1935 Mauser-Werke Argentine action with a SIG barrel made for the Chilean Mausers. Both barrel with the original chambers dimention, aproximately the same as the actual CIP standard shoot incredible well with ALL bullet weights-lenghts no matter what.

The CIP 7x57 standard dimentions https://bobp.cip-bobp.org/uploads/tdcc/tab-i/tabical-en-page33.pdf

What I’m gathering from that chamber print is the freebore is 19.2mm (.756”) long? I had a 1974 Ruger No.1 that had a very long throat compared to my newer Ruger No.1 RSI. I still own the RSI and enjoy hunting and shooting it.

I have a M70 and a couple Ruger No 1 in 7x57. I handload 160 gr Swift A Frames and find that is the sweet spot for bullet weight for this caliber. Taken lots of PG and deer.

If your plan is to use the rifle in the African bush on plains game, you are giving up a lot of capability by not using 175 gr A-Frames. I am surprised that they cannot be loaded to the same overall length as any other bullet, just giving up some powder capacity. What overall length keeps you off the lands with an A-Frame in your rifle?

If this is an absolute non-starter, I would have Rigby ream it out to your desired spec. They are very customer focused and I am sure would do this for you. Keep in mind that the magazine can also be a limiter so don’t bother reaming past the allowable length in the magazine.

I load 175 A Frames to 2,300 fps in my .275/7x57’s for Africa. I don’t know that I have ever recovered a bullet as everything is pass through. That includes zebra, wildebeest and kudu, so not just small stuff.

I load the 160’s for NA. Absolutely excellent load for the 7x57/.275. As mentioned above, for bigger critters in the bush where you never shoot past 200, I prefer the 175’s. They offer better penetration. I get total pass through with them, even on the quartering shots on larger PG.

European brass has a greater case capacity. Read Norma, RWS,S&B. American brass is formed from 30-06 brass I believe.

Yep, I use Norma brass for my rifles.

Mine would not easily chamber 160/s until I had it reamed.
@migrabill if not too late, can you have your cartridge ordered delayed until the issue is resolved?? I feel for ya. I like keeping all my guns as “original” as possible. Reaming would be last resort.

My 7x57 RSI (20” barrel) seemed to have settle with 175 AF (2385fps) over 44gr of H-4350 and a BR2 primer and a .020” jump.
I also like the classic 175gr Hornady RN Interlock that they discontinued. I have a few different loads for that bullet. But for now I have it shooting 2370fps with 44.5gr H-4350 and a BR2 primer and a .050” jump.
Both loads shoot the same POI.

I have some 140 and 160 AFs, but haven’t tried them yet. They are mostly for my daughters 7mm-08 for when we go to Africa

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.
