Thank you all for the warm welcome! Yes, Charleston, SC is certainly a special town. We will be making the three hour drive down to Charleston this November for the bi-yearly US Navy shipmates reunion. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends that I haven't seen in decades.

Yes, thank you. I was quite fortunate on that first African hunt to Zimbabwe back in 2012. Union County. I know the area well. We were in Waxhaw for five years. The area is really booming with new construction now.

Welcome! I am sorry to hear that you've already given up the solid, historical perfection of a CRF Mauser style action for (shuddering as I write this) the Blaser R8. But fear not! As a destroyer man who has likely trod the decks of an Arleigh Burke and felt the pounding seas of the north Atlantic, I have every confidence that you will come back around and embrace the original better mouse trap.
 
Welcome from Idaho - but SC has always been my second home as I have had relatives live there since about 1963.

Trod the decks I have! Not on a Arleigh Burke destroyer but on a much smaller Brooke Class Frigate. And yes, both the North Atlantic and the North Arabian Sea. "Stand by for heavy rolls while the ship is coming about"! But don't despair! I have not completely forsaken the tried-and-true CRF Mauser action. I do still maintain a few fine examples in the safe. An extraordinarily nice Matthew Roberts MNR 375 H&H on an improved Winchester Model 70 style action, and a tastefully upgraded (Matrix Gunsmithing) CZ 550 9.3 X 62. So, there may still be time to recover from the R8 affliction!

Good gravy! Brooke class is O-L-D. The OHP wasnt even around yet...speaking of a propensity to roll. You sir are a seasoned vet if you were on thise ships. My hat is off to you. Now pick up that CZ550 and put that R8 in the back of the safe! Be safe and welcome aboard.
