Gentlemen,
Booked a hunt to BVC in August for Buff/Plains game.
Doing some research on shipping my rifle over to Zimbabwe shows that our Canadian government might not be giving firearm export permits to Zimbabwe. This includes hunting rifles for hunting trips.
Now I noticed on their website that there has been an amendment last March that states that there may be possible exemptions.
I’m going to see if I can get ahold of someone at the office to see what’s going on.
Anyone have any experience on this matter?
Thanks appreciate it!

Years later, but did you ever figure this out? I am booked to hunt in Zim in 2028. Bringing my own rifles still looks like a murky process, but will apply gor a permit and see what happens.

Also following for a 2027 trip, would love it to be Zim and with my rifles. Will call Serge or his replacement in Ott to get proper answers. Weird as the ref above states 2008, took my own weapons after that date with an approved permit.

Keep us updated on your success.

Thanks

Thanks. I think there was an update to this law in 2025 to provide some exceptions. I will just call the government and ask.
That is the original source and going to the web page it notes it is current at 2026-06-21. Last amendment was 2023.

So the story is, the above law is now superseded by SOR/2025-50, which provides the ministry the authorization to provide special permits to do things that a prohibited in SOR/2008-248. I have emailed the ministry to ask for clarification on the intent of this order and whether it includes individual cases. I also have a lawyer looking into it pro-bono to get an opinion. If even a vague pathway exists, I will prepare in-depth application that includes the economic benefit that would be provided by Canadian hunters to a third world country and how it outweighs the remote chance that a 404 Jeffery and 2 boxes of ammo would work against the mission of Foreign Affairs. I anticipate the argument "just rent", so happy to hear anyones view on why you won't book a hunting trip if you can't bring your own rifle(s). I have my own already of course, especially for DG.

When we take guns to Zim we get a Temp Export permit, when returning to Canada you must have the CSBA verify what was taken out is returned then they stamp your permit. You MUST send this to Ott to get cleared from their system, then call to make sure all boxes are checked and inputted into system by them, or you get monthly threatening emails concerning passports and ability to travel. Don't ask how I know that.

Certainly hope I will be allowed to take my guns, want to finish my dangerous 6 with same gun, rhino dart so that's out as I will not pay for a kill hunt. If Zim comes back a hard no then other country's will be looked at for the hippo as final 7. No SA hippo inside a fence, possibly a Krueger animal. But do want to see Zim, falls and possibly hunt with Wayne again.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.
