How many are addicted to Africa and need yearly fix?

I have found I am addicted to Africa and have to have a yearly fix. After this past June trip with Tsala I said I was going to take a year off.
Well, month and a half later I have booked flights for May 2027. @HuntOften36 has his first trip to Africa with my Favorite outfitter in May, Bos en Dal Safaris and I will be tagging along doing a cull hunt. Looking to hunt a couple buff cows and whatever else gets in the way.
I guess I am a full addict. Already thinking of 2028 :)
 
Every other year, to every year.

I think it's a every year to another continent for me; whether it's Africa, South America, or Europe.
 
Is this a trick question???? I am hopelessly addicted and am spending my kids inheritance to go "one more time". Same with fishing in Alaska - home of dumb fish that a very average fisherman can catch.

Since 2003, I have been 15 times with trips interspersed to Austria, NZ, Tajikistan, Turkey, Canada and Alaska. I prefer Austria and Africa to all. Planning on the UK and Spain soon....

I need a 12 step program but will be darned if I apologize to anyone....
 
I'm planning a trip for next year with some guys that went with me last September. Taking them to a different area in SA. I just got back last weekend from a buffalo hunt and I have a double buffalo hunt planned for 2028, but no I don't think I'm addicted. Well maybe just a little bit.

I am an every year guy...just can't wait!!!! Currently I am booked through 2028.
 
To answer the question, Yes, but I can stop any time.

I am addicted to Africa and go every other month, for the past 10 years :-). Of course that is for work mostly :-(. I will admit, I am enjoying South America a bit these days, while I love Africa I am getting tired of its perpetual “problems” and “charity mindset”
 
The wife and I went for our once in a lifetime trip for our 25 anniversary. Just had our 39 anniversary this year and leave Thursday for our 11th trip of a lifetime. We both fell in love with it!!!
 
Add all you guys up, and you are a big part of the reason there is any hunting being preserved in Africa. Your addiction equals conservation! If not for sportsmen dollars, well, why NOT shoot off every offending elephant or lion.....
 
I enjoy hunting in Africa, and there are things I like about the continent, but I hunt there only for buffalo and elephants, the rest is just part of the hunts. I would not go to Africa for hunting only PG, I much prefer a Deer or Ibex hunt, for example. That is why I would not call myself addicted to Africa. If DG hunting had been possible elsewhere, I would have preferred to do it for many reasons in Southeast Asia.
 
The AH 12 step program...
1.See hunting/Trophy pictures
2.begin looking at outfitters and go to hunting shows
3.decide how low your savings/retirement account can go
4. Reduce that amount by 30%
5. Begin looking at vacation times/dates
6. Book dates with outfitter
7. Send deposit. Apologize to wife repeatedly
8. Purchase airline tickets. Lie/apologize to wife repeatedly
9. Begin obsessing over gun, ammo, binos, gear. Buy some new. Lie/ apologize to wife repeatedly
10. Leave on trip. Forget about the rest of the world for 7-14 days.
11. Have another trip booked by the time your plane lands. Try to get wife involved so it's "our" trip
12. Taxidermy.


Many other steps not listed... feel free to insert your own.
 
I am fortunate not to have a wife and kids to worry about! My money is my money.
Also have lost many friends my age in last several weeks, decided to enjoy life now, as often as I can go over. Cant take money with me to the grave, figure I will work until its my time anyways to afford the addiction.
 
A sign your addicted is when you are on Safari and you are planning you next 2 trips!

You are in need of counselling when you have 3-5 trips already scheduled and you are planning while you are on Safari another trip!

If you have 5 or more scheduled back to Africa someone who cares for you needs to consider having, you institutionalized.

I leave in a few days for Tanzania my second trip of the year (Uganda in Feb)

I was certainly in that mode for half a dozen years. I’m now diversifying with Western US and European big game hunts. More than anything, I’m getting back to prioritizing my greatest hunting passion, wild birds (the wild part is key, I would just as soon shoot clays as preserve birds). Africa is still in the mix, just not at the top of the list anymore.
 
If I could afford it, we would go every year.

As it is, it's every few years and we have a great time doing so.
 
Not addicted. But still have some animals on my shopping list. (I would love to take that Tslala discounted hunt, but the current airfare is a deal killer.) However, I might be getting addicted to Central and Eastern Europe.
