In many cases over the years I've found people who buy and sell guns are more "gun" guys than customer service guys. Basic manners and conventions of doing business with customers are sometimes lacking. Recently I asked a seller why he was selling a personal and very personalized gun and he told me my question was "obnoxious." Ok...

I've never had bad experiences with Cabela's gun libraries but I've fur sure had meh experiences. Sales people who say "Look over there" and wave their hand vaguely even though there's four guys working and no customers. Messages left and calls not returned. Brusque and annoyed tone over the phone when I do get someone. Etc.

How refreshing to work (over the phone) with the team at the Buda Cabela's. Joe and Craig we so incredibly patient as we tried to figure out the best way to get a rifle bought. Cabela's had a tempting offer Tuesday of 10% off which I wasn't quite able to take advantage of but they tried to get it done with me.

Then yesterday we kept trying and various logistical road blocks came up. Finally today we broke through! These guys were patient, amiable, and just wanted to work with the me til we got to the finish line.

You would think that would be the norm in any sales business -- and it is in most businesses. But in the gun business these guys are special.

Overall, Cabela's seems to have taken a sharp downhill turn since being taken over by Bass Pro. Good to know that somewhere there are still sales people in one of the stores still trying to help the customer get what he wants.

The reason they usually aren't great is because they typically aren't commissioned salesmen or the commissions they recieve are pitiful. As someone who has sold guns for Bass Pro and whose FIL manages a sizable gun store, the employees are typically hourly and are there for two reasons: retirement job (usually ex-military or LE) to keep them busy or they get decent discounts.

I think you're probably right, but there is a definite difference in retail attitude now. I worked in retail 50 years ago and managed a sporting goods department in a department store. I always did the best I could to help the customer find what they needed even though there was no commission. It was common to find that almost anywhere. Now you find retail clerks that seem to.avoid eye contact and walk in a different direction rather than get involved with your problems. When I found an older woman working at a Lowe's store that not only Ser about helping me find something, she knew what the items were and where to.find them. I made sure the store manager knew that she did that and that as a customer I appreciated it. Younger employees want the paycheck but really don't think working with customers should be part of the deal.

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.
