This is one thing that I need to clarify what exactly the tip off mount is… all the Kreighoff doubles I have seen have the removable mounting plate on the rib. Presumably there are off the shelf interfaces below that plate?

Here is a Krieghoff video showing a short, low profile Picatinny base for the Big Five. Using the Pic rail opens up multiple very well reliable quick release options.

Yes that might be a better option much as I hate the look of a picatinny rail. Many thanks
 
I highly recommend their factory Aimpoint ACRO mount, very low in the rib and can still see factory sights if it ever failed.

Also keeps a proper cheek weld where some of the higher mounted options don’t

This is personal. So, it is up to you.
Mercury recoil reducer or similar, changes the balance of rifle. But on the other hand, if you can not take recoil, then you will need it.
Whats the biggest caliber you shot?

If you go to Germany to be measured ask them to try both guns if they have samples. With recoil reducer and without. See how they handle.

Does that clamp straight onto the dovetail under the mounting plate or is there a separate plate that interfaces between rib and aimpoint?

That would be awesome if it clamps directly to the rib without needed an adapter plate. Another AimPoint option is the T2/H2, but again it would be important to know how it’s going to mount.

I’m not a fan of adapter plates.
 
So Krieghoff has a section of removable rib as shown on video above, you replace that with the dovetail adapter plate, which ACRO bolts direct. Very solid mount. You are essentially getting a 1/3 cowitness with the irons similar to an AR-15 setup. The adapter is sold directly from Krieghoff.

If going there I would ask to shoot with or without reducer. If rifle weighs less than 12# then personally I feel its 2x harder than 416 Rigby recoil. My 500 weighed 11#, different brand but recoil was not fun.

That is a very nice clean look. Leave it to the Germans. ;)

Respectfully, if I was you, I would get a cheaper flight to Germany, stay in a cheaper hotel, drink less German beer, and eat pea soup and tinned beef for a couple weeks after I got home AND UP THAT QUALITY OF WOOD. This is a beautiful rifle, and for many, a once in a life time rifle. Do yourself a favour and get the best wood you can. Future you will be glad you did!

Keep in mind that you can have the rib grooved for a red dot instead of other mounting systems. Cleaner look for me. I'd get the recoil reducer but ask if it can be removed. Are you sure you want a .500?
It will be awesome to have a custom Double made. Keep us in the loop!

I know what you are saying and I may well increase the grade of wood once I have seen them. I have been trying to see what grade 3 and grade 4 look like and found these examples. To me they are very nice ly figured for a relatively low grade. Butt pad to the left is grade 3 and the other is grade 4
