Sako 85 375 H&H

I like the Trijicon RMR sight, super light weight and small in bulk.

Hi All
looking for a Red Dot to fit to a sako 375 . rifle has pic rail on it . whats the best brand to buy

Regards
Chris
I used the Trijicon RMR on my Sako 85 and my Winchester model 70. Very fast to the eye, fastest target acquisition, virtually indestructible. RM09-C-700742

I know this was not the question, but have you considered removing pic rail and installing red dot directly to front scope mount? There are mounts available to do that. Would allow lower and cleaner mounting and also completely clear ejection port area. I can post picture from my setup later.

As for red dot, I would use Aimpoint H2, RMR will work also but Aimpoint is fully closed design and extra size is not a problem on rifle, in my opinion at least. I'm using similar size Holosun now but if I would take that rifle to Africa etc, I think I would go with Aimpoint.

Here is how mine looks,

The only way I can think of to mount a QD red dot on Sako dovetails without adding a Picatinny rail would be to find an older red dot with a 1" tube and mount it in Warne QD rings. (The Warne rings might also have been made in 30mm, but I've never seen a set. 30mm rings would make it a lot easier to find a red dot that fits.) Aimpoint and Millett used to make good-quality red dots that mounted in rings, and I'm sure there were others, as well as a cornucopia of Chinese junk. The only drawback here is that neither the rings nor the ring-mounted sight will be easy to find.

I have a similar setup on a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle, a Millett red dot in Ruger rings. I picked up the sight, in near-mint condition in the original box, at a gun show for 30 or 40 bucks. It works fine. I'd have to look to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that as long ago as that sight was made, it was made in Japan, not China.

@Ozishooter

I have a similar set up to @HannuS on a Sako 85 with an Aimpoint H1.

The mount I used is

another option is

Both mount directly to the Sako tapered dovetail (ie don't require picatinny rail).

If you're happy using the pic rail, the Aimpoint (and most other dots) come with a picatinny mount.

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.
