SOUTH AFRICA: Kuche Safaris - Free State - August 2024

Man, that blows, and I hope this doesn't deter you from going to Africa again. Don't let this bad experience/nightmare keep you away from going back.

I had one bad experience with the first safari taxidermist and have gone back two times, and I've had three safaris and they have been fantastic. Give someone else a chance to help you forget this nightmare. BTW, there are a lot of excellent African sponsors here. Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Oh we will definitely be back. Africa has been a dream of mine since I was a little boy. And I know what to look for/ what I want to experience next time. This forum has been a huge help as well.

I may have a spare impala cape. If not I can probably find one. Pm me if you’d like and we can visit about it.

Second @gizmo he’s done a couple safaris worth of PG for me. I’ve taken numerous Impala over the last several years, and euro mounted a couple of the better ones. I almost always have the D&P the cape and then give it to him so he has extras since this seems to be a common one he has to redo or someone gets damaged. I’m gonna guess I’ve given him at least 3 or 4 extra Impala capes over the years

I appreciate the offers to fix it, but I think at this point I'm done dealing with it. I'll salvage the skull cap (I had originally asked for a Euro anyway) and let it serve as a reminder to be more diligent next time!

My buddy and his hunting party never got their trophies. No real explanation from Kuche either. Koos offered them a DU style hunt at a discounted rate to smooth it over. They have not returned.

Edit: they paid up front in full for the taxidermy, mind you
That's pretty much why I decided it wouldn't be worth my time to argue with them.

Yikes, that impala might quite possibly be the worst taxidermy I’ve ever seen.

The blesbuck horns look correct but probably on the wrong skull.

Glad this thread has kept chugging along. I look forward to the email notifications I get when someone makes a new post.

These guys are a total scam. Someone with connections at DU needs to put a stop to this.
I've done some browsing on the DU website to see if I could find someone to reach out to. If anyone has a good point of contact I'd happily write up a report to send them.

Those are 100% not his Blesbok horns

I think at least one of them is, looking at this section.
It could be. Positioning of the horns on the mount also really matters. My Impala looks smaller on the mount than on the pictures because of the positioning. My fault because it didn't sent pictures.

As far as I'm concerned if the Outfitter isn't on this site as a Sponsor, then they don't exist.

You can't tell me in confidence that of all the Sponsored Outfitters on here that I would be "genuinely missing out" if I only chose to hunt with one or all of them, strictly.........................?

Which brings up my next question [that won't be answered].... What exactly would I be missing out on.......?:sneaky:

You made this argument several years ago. As far as I can tell you’ve still never been to Africa and aren’t planning to, so it’s really a non-issue. As far as sponsors (really they are advertisers), some are very good, some are only ok, and a few I wouldn’t take a free hunt with. The options with sponsors cover very good options within Namibia and South Africa, outside that there are some deficiencies you wouldn’t understand.

Reached out recently as 2 years is rapidly approaching. No updates on taxidermy

Took mine about that long, and it was only dip, pack, ship - skins and skulls - literally almost 2 years. "Reasons" given - rebuilding their on-site facilities, first taxidermist fell behind, etc. etc.
So with "new" facilities, I cant imagine what the reason is unless, you're having mounts, etc. done there.

Just skins and skulls.

If it weren’t for the other guys in my group that are anxiously awaiting their taxidermy, I’d have just moved on with my life and let them keep the stuff with the cost of shipping these days.

The guy that spent the extra $5k +\- on the waterbuck is very stressed at the moment, doesn’t think it’ll show up or if it does that it will look like Frankensteins monster.

I have a friend that hunted with a different outfitter the same week we did in 2024 and his taxidermy has been on the wall in his living room for nearly a year already.

It was 2 years in June and we just got our's back. We waited until all of our party (4 hunters) were all done with taxidermy so we could ship together which made getting it to our door much easier then if we did it separately. We ship via boat and had Eagle Eye Global help out on the import to Houston. Once EE was contacted things seemed to move a little faster.

What was the quality of the taxidermy like?

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.

Dan who is C. W. Richter? He seems to not be a fan of myself!
