Good day AHers. I recently aquired this fine old rifle. Beautiful old rifle with a lot of neat attachments. Wood and work is excellent. Bore is clean and sharp and shoots well. Hoping some of you can tell me what I have and perhaps value. Also if anyone could tell me where I could possibly find a scope mount??? By the pictures you can see the steel plate on the left side of the stock and the hole at the back of the iron sight. Thanks in advance.

Thats amazing. And scope mounts will cost you more than the rifle and wil require permanent modifications. Id leave it as it is

Unless the hole in side reciever and irons is some wierd optic mount. If it is new england srms might be able to make something but expect 1500+ for one set of rings.
 
Ouch! Thanks for the reply. I would only be interested in mounting a scope if I could find the original mount.

Problem is those scope mounts are all custom made/fitted to each gun.
I have one with claw mount bases to have rings made to fit 1500 is about the cost to have done as they have to fit and file jt all by hand.

That is the Jeffery scope mounting.
It is really quite simple and not a very elegant setup. That said, probably the least expensive type of mounting to replicate. They do place the scope offset though which is weird.

Super cool rifle. I believe the previous scope mounted to the hole on the side of the action opposite the ejection and the hole at the rear of the island sight.

Thankyou. Any idea where i might find one? And my hole is at the back of the rear sights.
 
I doubt Jeffery would be of much help and if they were, high $$$!
Your best bet is to put the word out that you're looking and to scour the English auctions.
Might take a few years, but one will pop up eventually.
 
Appreciate all the input. Was kinda hoping I could get a little more history on the gun and a value. Maybe Rookhawk or one of our overseas gentlemen could help?

They may not help per say but may know of some people who can. Its going to be $$$ no way to slice that.
 
Anyone have an idea of the value of this rifle? I thought being a Jeffery it would have a descent value.
 
Yes but at my age irons are not my friend!
 
As Huvius said, it is a reasonably cheap setup to make, but very easy to do wrong, and whilst it would be nice to have a vintage scope to match it I would chose a small magnification modern style scope and centre mount it with the reproduction side mounts, it may make it fiddly to load but wouldn’t damage the value of the rifle. And if anyone tells you to drill and tap it, knee them in the groin and walk away from them, it will halve the value of it to a collector, or anyone with taste.

Very nice rifle there, I have a Jeffery’s that is very similar, mine doesn’t have a scope mount or provision for one, sorry can’t help on that.

We are very lucky to have @Huvius here, he has a lot of knowledge of fine old rifles & I think he has got it right on that scope mount/rings set up.

I think any decent gunsmith could make you up a set of rings to fit those mounting points with a more modern look & design but unfortunately they would be off set, similar to some on early Enfields ?

Perhaps don’t have quick take off wing nuts ?

Does your stock feel very full in hand, mine is a lot more stock than my Gibbs 1903 or original Mannlichers ?
 
Nice clean MS. All my MS rifles are English finished. These guns go for around $1500-2500 but can go to $5000 depending on condition and if its cased or takedown models.

Mine is actually quite trim.

Beautiful classic. Have you considered contacting Steyr Arms USA (https://steyr-arms.us/) for advice about mounting a scope without reducing its collector value?
