I think I may have found my new favorite rifle for Africa. I picked this up recently and mounted a Meopta 1-6x scope. I stopped by the range to get the scope rough sighted to get ready for load development. It took 4 shots to get the scope adjusted close to center. The next three shots at 100 yards are pictured. This was a moderate load of H4831 in PPU brass with 285 grain PPU bullets. I hope A-Frames shoot this well!

You clearly got a shooter and not all of them are. Congrats! That's a sweet round

I had one years ago that barely stayed inside of three inches at 100 yards from the bench. Several others that I’ve owned have all shot well. This is only one group from this rifle, but it sure looks promising!

In the past, I've replied to a couple of "What's your favorite rifle?" posts. It's always a hard (almost impossible) choice especially since my feelings sometime change. I've thought about thinning my small collection a couple of times but each time I do, I wind up remembering why I bought each rifle in the first place as I try to figure out which one I'd be willing to let go of.

My Ruger No. 1S in 9.3x74r for various reasons always winds up at the top of the list. I have an outsized fondness for this particular rifle & round combination. I like the way it handles. With a compact 1" Minox 1.5-8x32 scope, it shoots well. I like to shoot a rimmed round in my falling blocks but this one most of all. That long cartridge is easy to load into the breech even when wearing gloves. With rounds from 184gr to 285gr, it will take everything I'm currently pointing a rifle at.

I just picked up a Ruger #1 in 270 and one in 458 Win. I think I might have to make one a 9.3x74. Why is it that every time I go on the forum, I find some new obsession. Since it’s going to be a German cartridge, I think I’ll make it a German style stalker, with an octagon barrel. I found a 100 year old Kipplauf with this barrel…octagon but with flutes. I’d make it something this.

Great picture. They look like rocket ships.

.

Awesome rifle ! And I just posted on the Africa site whether 9,3x74R is legal for DG in Uganda, having just sourced a 9,3x74 double ! Great rifle & superb caliber !

Great group. I think that with those cartridges and that PPU bull and cases you will have an even better group because now the head space for your barrel has been adjusted. I also doubt that any animal will take hits with this bullet very far

Nice!

I am not sure how many of those were made, but I wish they would make more.

I had a 405 WCF, I wish I would have never sold. I think it was a stainless one but I have bought and sold so many guns I can't remember what it actually was.

I have owned 3 guns in that caliber. Encore, Browning 1895, Ruger 1.

I have only owned one 9.3x74R it was a Blaser S-2 double.

This one balances perfectly. I’m not sure I’d want a longer barrel. It would get you a bit more velocity though!
@Catahoula
More powder would give more velocity as well, you just have to choose the right powder for the pressure .

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.

Dan who is C. W. Richter? He seems to not be a fan of myself!
