Community Designed AH Hunting Knife

Thank you for the input! Right now I'm planning on using Rhodesian teak for the handle, along with a brass guard.

Both of the knives below are in teak. The folding knife shows it freshly oiled, the bowie shows it with a bit of age

I'm loving the look of the Rhodesian Teak.

You said brass for the guard, but that mock up appeared to be steel. Optical Illusion? Is it cheaper to make a couple mock ups from steel first?

I did say brass for the guard initially, but going through my stocks of materials, I don’t have any brass on hand.

And there’s something about teak and gun blued steel that works too.

Will see how the prototype turns out and if everyone likes it, and then will make a final decision

Here’s more updates on the prototype.
Hand sanding of the blade is complete

And then I fitted, pinned and riveted the guard in place

Now we move onto the handle. As I mentioned earlier, I’m going with Rhodesian teak, baikiaea plurijuga, for the handles.
Start with sitting some out to rough size and shape

Then drilling for pin holes

Then we can glue up using high quality epoxy

And then finally drill and glue in the lanyard tube

Next up will be to start shaping the handle

What in the hell’s taking so long?

You started Thursday. :)

Seriously Ross, right now there is a bladesmith saying to himself “dang, this guy is going to blow up all my excuses on why their blade is taking so long..”

Super work.

Haha, it helps that right between a couple of custom build right now and waiting for some supplies.

And I would be lieing if I didn’t admit that I see this as awesome opportunity.

More progress.

The handle profiled out and sides evened up.

Then I cut the contouring in

And start knocking back the corners

And then finally round and smoothen it all

And now to hand sanding the handle and guard

Ross, since these are all hand made custom series, can you number them under the AH logo? If so, I call “dibs” on #1. But, I really want it to be #1 not just numbered to satisfy.
I was going to serialise, and sure thing, No 1 is yours.

I was also toying with the idea of putting the persons handle here on AH under the logo, if they wanted it?

Well, the knife itself is done.

Overall, Im very happy with how its turned out. Shape and size are spot on in my opinion. Also, love the teak. For me, it comes down to that guard. I gun blued the steel, but I'm just not sure whether or not I would prefer brass.

What do you guys think?

What do I think? Take my money. How do I order? The more customization options the better.

Oh...can I have No 5.?
