I have given this rifle the Joseph Von Benedict treatment(backcountry hunting podcast)! I added the Alaskan arms quick detach rings, and the alaskan arms extended floor plate. She now holds 6 rounds in the magazine and one in the pipe! Morris was a pleasure to speak to at AA.

I have shot 3 boxes of ammo in prep for my first Safari in June. First trip to the range i had 5 miss fires in 7 shots with Nosler 250 grain Accubond, I then shot 40 rounds of PPU without a hiccup.

I mounted a Leupold 6hd Patrol 1x6 firedot duplex I got on sale from Eurooptic crazy deal of $699. This scope is amazing, the clarity is outstanding, you can aim with both eyes open, it has made me a fan of less magnification!

The rifle with PPU ammo was impressive, averaging just over an inch at 100 yards. Saturday I took it to the range 200 yard course using Buffalo Bore Barnes 250gr TSX...wow! 1 inch groups at 200 yards with a 20 inch barrel! That is really good shooting for me pic attached. It repeatedly performed just like that when I did my job

I am fired up with the rifle, scope, and ammunition performance.

Thanks for letting me share.

Mike

What are hunting with it?
I really want one of these but not sure they will ever be available in Australia

"First trip to the range i had 5 miss fires in 7 shots with Nosler 250 grain Accubond,"
What's up with that??? I would have been very alarmed if that happened to me! Any reason that you have discovered?

I was concerned, but the primer strikes looked good. Nosler sent me a shipping label and returned the 5 boxes i had purchased, i think the primers were bad, but i dont know. I will put another 2 or 3boces thru it before the trip shooting off sticks.

Thank you

I have the same rifle in 35 whelen got it last November, same treatment. Bedded the action.
The short heavier barrels do shoot very nice.
I’ll be taking mine to Canada this fall for a
Moose hunt and from there on out probably become my go to here in the timber.

I have not had any issue with Mis fires but I’ve only shot handloads

Hey fantastic, my misfire was obviously the ammunition, the dent in the primer was significant. I want to go to canada moose hunting, if you have any reccomendations let me know. Thanks

I bought a Ruger Hawkeye in 35 Whelen last year and had numerous misfires with the Nosler Accubond as well with what appear to me to be reasonable primer strikes. I also had a couple with Buffalo Bore ammo in it. I had read on AH that others had experienced light primer strikes with Ruger Hawkeye rifles and to replace the firing pin spring with a stronger spring. Midway USA sells a Wolff striker spring for Ruger rifles which is a 24 lb spring to resolve this issue. I recently bought one but due to shoulder surgery haven't had a chance to replace the spring and retry the Nosler ammo to see if that is the issue. I would really like to shoot the Nosler ammo as it was highly recommended to me for the 35 Whelen

So what do you think the issue was with the Nosler ammo?

Dead primers or no powder. In a case that size, it's quite likely the primers alone would not unseat the bullets - of course depends on the primers if a powder issue and neck hold on the bullet as well as being crimped.
Just a guess. Either primers or powder, with a decent strike and no trouble with other ammo.

Not sure, but Nosler is out of it now, Nosler sent me a prepaid shipping label to return and they are reimbursing me for the purchase of 7 boxes (lamost $600). The barnes ammo and PPU shot flawlessly? I attached a pic, the primer strike looks solid to me, but maybe someone here can advise. The gentleman at Nosler did say they purchase their primers....

Thank Yoi

I know from experience that a normal large rifle primer will unseat a 35 caliber 225g bullet into a barrel…
Not far enough to suck coming back out but into the rifling

Disappointing. I have never used Nosler ammo, but I have had such great performance from my hand loads that I pretty much only load AccuBonds, Partitions and Ballistic Tips, depending on what I want to shoot. I would have liked to think that their ammo was something you could count on. The loaded ammo is off my list of things to try.

I’ve got a Hawkeye in 35 whelen that had several dud strikes with Nosler accubond 225 gr. Shoots Barnes 200gr without hiccups. I think it’s crap Nosler ammo

Took my Ruger African 35 Whelen to the range the other day after swapping out the trigger spring. I’d been shooting factory 224 Accubonds, 200 TTSX and Oryx with surprisingly good accuracy. Tried the Partisions and had 50% light strikes. Switched back to the Accubond and no problems. I’ll be calling Nosler MIZ!

I am not an exlert, but the primer strikes on the ppu and buffalo bore do seem dedper than on the nosler? Maybe someone with much more experience or your explanation explains it.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?
