Current DG Battery. Please Share Yours

I only have one DG rifle, my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery. Good so far from jackrabbits to grizzlies. Hell on elk too

Please feel free to share your DG rifle(s).
Points to ponder, from my "point of view".........
1. "DGR" cartridge/caliber starts at .458 for me, nothing less is considered
2. I am torn a bit about including my Super Short Cartridges, even though they have taken, elephant, buffalo, hippo and lion. These are very small rifles.
3. All of these are Winchester M70 Control Feed Guns, for me, nothing else needs to apply.
4. X1 or X3 means there are 1 of these or 3 of these, or whatever the number might be. I am not going to show photos of all of them, just a few.

Start at the top and work the way down. I will explain some things since many will not know what these are.

500 MDM X3
Winchester M70 .500 caliber true, 2.8 inch RUM case. X2 @19 inches, X1 at 20 inches.

50 B&M Super Short X2

475 B&M X3

Winchester M70 WSM Action, .474 caliber, 2.240 inch RUM case, 18 inch barrels. I don't like this cartridge very much, and I own all three of the rifles that have been built, and never recommend them to anyone. They offer nothing that a .458 caliber cannot do.

458 B&M EX X1

Winchester M70 .458 caliber, 2.5 inch RUM case, 20 inch barrel. This is "One of a Kind" it was more or less an experimental cartridge, at 2.5 inches I am able to load full nose projection CEB Raptors with added Talon Tips and work through the magazine. This adds 125 to 150 fps impact velocity at 50 yards, substantial with a Generation II bullet.

458 B&M X6

Winchester M70 WSM Action , .458 Caliber, 2.240 inch RUM case 18"--20" barrels. My favorite 458 caliber rifle/cartridge. I have one with an Ultimate Stock that comes in at 6.5 lbs, 18 inch stainless, fantastic for Alaska. I have a 18 inch GunKote finish matte black in Bastogne stock that comes in at 7 lbs, and have taken elephant, buffalo, hippo several times over, and a pleasure to carry and shoot.

458 B&M Super Short X2
Winchester M70 WSSM Action, 1.65 inch WSM case, 16 inch barrels. These are fantastic little guns, at 6.25 lbs they are a pleasure to work with and carry. Very fast handling at close ranges. Capable? Yes, far more than I considered in the beginning, I would not have placed the Super Shorts in this category at one time, but each of them have proven themselves capable on DG. But only with the right bullets that were designed specifically for them from CEB and North Fork. I have seen them at work on elephant, hippo, buffalo and lion. My Sons love theirs and have put them to good use.

DSCN0260-X2.jpg

458 Lott X2
Winchester M70 X1 with 22 inch barrel X1 with 24 inch barrel. At one time I had 6 458 Lott, all Winchesters of course. With the B&Ms, I didn't need 6 458 Lotts and only kept two. My first Custom Shop 458 Lott with 24 inch barrel which I took 4 elephants with, long before the invent of the B&M cartridges. And an African Edition, which they made 50 of these, I had #50 and sold it (wish I had it back) and #13, which I had the barrel trimmed back to 22 inches.

DSCN2860-X2.jpg

458 Winchester X2
Winchester M70s. X1 22 inch barrel, X1 20 inch barrel. Once again, at one point I had several 458 Winchesters, a cartridge that I fell in love with back in the 1990s. Same as with the 458 Lott, I no longer needed those mostly longer 24 inch guns, and sold all but one. My love for 458 Winchester hit a high in 2000 where I took it to Zimbabwe and Mozambique and slammed 3 lions to the dirt. Later I had Wes from Accurate Innovations put one of his Bastogne stocks on it. And at the time I knew Leslie Dengler from the New Haven Winchestrer Custom shop very well, and had her do a Lion Floorplate for it. It has long been retired for many years, but holds a place in my heart, and is the reason I am michael458.

A couple of years ago I wanted to do some updated pressure and data work in 458 Winchester, but I did not want to use "The Lion Rifle" for that work. A good excuse to buy a new Winchester M70 and try it out. Had the barrel trimmed to a proper 20 inches, added a barrel band front sight. Plain Jane stock that came on it. But turned out to be an excellent choice, and addition to the family.

DSCN3535-X3.jpg

50 B&M Alaskan X5
Winchester/Browning M71 Lever Gun or Marlin 1895 Lever Gun, .500 caliber true, take a .510 Alaskan case, squeeze it to .500 caliber.

Perhaps one Last Entry, and somewhat Reluctant to do so, but indeed it has been very successful on buffalo and hippo. Of course, one is required to use properly designed bullets for this purpose, from CEB and North Fork.

IMG_2081-X2.jpg

Excluding anything under .458 caliber I think that concludes my entry..........

Excluding anything under .458 caliber I think that concludes my entry..........

Spectacular!

I only have one DG rifle, my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery. Good so far from jackrabbits to grizzlies. Hell on elk too

Simply Perfect!

I've always believed a man should never risk being under gunned. Bigger is better!

Enjoy!

You have spectacular taste in rifles!

Clearly you are not recoil shy!

Sir, absolutely love the work you have done.
I am very impressed and interested in the super short 458 cartridge. Where can I find more information about them? If I missed the link, I am sorry but this thread has been very interesting and looong , almost like the 458 thread!
I am new here and you guys have some amazing rifles! I am learning something new every time I read a new thread!
I really appreciate this site for the knowledge that is being given by those who know to those who want to learn! Thank you to all of you who freely share the knowledge!

I sent you a PM with more information concerning this.............

The 458JCE is built on the WSSM action
Very Excellent, I did not know what the 458 JCE was, but looked it up and see you were here talking about it a couple of years ago...... I see where you tried to get a 458 B&M SS reamer but could not get it in Australia, so you did your own. Excellent, very unique and fun cartridge and capable of much bigger things than most would consider with only a casual look. Especially using Gen I and II bullets.

We should start a 458 JCE and 458 Super Short thread and compare notes..... I love mine, recently set it up so I could see with my left eye and shoot again.

Well done.
Michael

Three of us - Joe, Carl and Evan (hence JCE) made it happen.

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
