What scope for a 416 Remington Mag

Most modern scopes will take the recoil. The greater question is, “Will your eyebrow take the recoil ?”
Don’t crawl the stock, mount scope correctly and get a scope with lots of eye relief. :)
Yes. I have my "kiss mark" to back up your wisdom, Sir...

My cousin put a burris posilock scope that just came out when i got my 416 wanted to try it .It was a one shot total destrucfion of that new scope .I have shot my 416s a bunch at 200 yards fixing to try 300 yards with barnes tfx 350 gr bullets should be fun .

I know it’s probably not the best scope but I’m wondering if a vintage red field 2-7 would take the recoil it’s a nice glossy finish and smaller objective lens I’d like to install it but concerned of the recoil being too much for it on a 416 rem mag

I have a 30 year old Redfield on my 30 year old 270. I wouldn't change it for anything. BUT a 270 is a 270....

Right my dads rifle which I have is a savage 99 308 has the same old red field that’s been on it for forty years and it’s never gonna change it’s a 308 though my concern is putting that red field on that big rifle and it not take the recoil I like the glossy black look and the smaller size of it I have some nice steel Burris rings to go with it but just not sure so hopefully someone can give me direction

A standard Vortex 3-9 will likely fail. A Leupold VX-3 or VX-5 in a 2.5-8x or 3-10x will work perfectly.
I went ahead and passed on keeping the vortex 3-9 on the 416. I put it on and didn’t like the look of it with the vortex rings the scope is matte finished too so it took it off and placed it on another suitable rifle for that scope a 7mm rem mag. I also have some 1” sized steel Burris rings that I want to use on this 416, I just am now debating on waiting to find a leupold or if I can go with an older red field that I have it’s a 2-7 with a gloss finish and I like the look but afraid it might not take the recoil. Not like I’m hunting with the gun anytime soon so I can wait but I’d like something more than open sights for this rifle.

I have 4 416 rem mags all have japaneese made 3x9 nikons on them and one has lasted 2500 shots .I use weaver bases with burris signature zee rings on it .I do like 50 mm scopes better with lots of eye relief so you dont get hit in the eye.I always shoot my rifle standing at the bencb put a milk crate with a bull bag on top way less recoil .
Hey I’ve got nearly the same set up aluminum weaver bases Burris steel see rings 1” and now to find the right scope, reading the comments gets me kinda a pros and cons list I do have an older red field 2-7 I’d really like to put on it but not sure if it can handle the recoil

It will bust that redfield quick look for a long eye relief 3x9 well made .The older jap made nikons and leopold vari x III work perfrct in 3x9 .You csn make 300 yards with a good bullet with the 416s .I also find holes to shoot through brush to have a clear path to shoot .

Good to know thank you I’ll be on the lookout what’s a fair price you figure on one of them Nikons I can get on eBay and look about but trying to make sure the one I’d get is gonna be a good one

I have the new Trijicon Accupoint in 1-8x24, red triangle post tritium reticle on my 416 RM. I think they just released it this January. Feels like great eye relief.

Used to have a Swarovski Z8 1-8 which was very nice but the 1-8 Trijicon seems very intuitive to me and is just as light.

Curious would a red field tracker work on a 416 rem mag
I’ll back the post in this thread about the questionable durability of the Tracker line of scopes. They were marketed as a cheap alternative pushed out with the Redfield name long after Redfield ceased to have any connection to the old US Redfield sight company. At the time the Tracker line was put on the market, a friend owned a gun store. A large portion of his market were shooters with modest incomes and “cheap” shopping habits. Naturally, he started carrying the Tracker line. By the end of the big game hunting season that first year after introduction, most of the Trackers came back into the shop sounding like a baby’s rattle. True story- take it or leave it. Or put the Tracker on the 416. Spend time at the range, at least two or three multi shot trips, with full power hunting loads to give the scope a legit test. If it proves to be good to go, it’s probably good to go. :)

Yeah I do t think I’m going to attempt it just because I would rather keep it and put it on a more tame rifle than the 416 I’ll find a leupold

Hello gents I ended up finding a scope I like I picked a Burris Fullfield IV 3-12x42 these are rated for high shock and I like the quality of it it was a decent price too and in good shape. I’ve got it mounted now with some steel rings and bore sighted I’ll have to make up some handloads to get it out and shoot it.

I put a Luepold scout scope on my .416. Part of the Freedom scopes. 1.5-4. 6 inches of eye relief. The first blood I drew with that rifle was from my eyebrow using a scope with about 3.5 inches eye relief.

I have a Leupold Patrol 1-6 with firedot on my 416. Shot an elephant and zebra with it two weeks ago. It worked great. Both one shot kills, dropping on the spot.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
