Hunting reports

Now it's 6:40 in the morning at my place. I just woke up. I dreamed last night that I was hunting in Africa. All of you from this forum were with me. It was very realistic. I even smelled the fire while we were sitting after the hunt. I caught something, but when we went to see the trophy, I woke up.
I'm really sorry that this night wasn't a little longer, to sit with you by the fire and listen to hunting stories.

I told you so, but you wouldnt listen, would you?

You shoud have found something better to do, like knitting wool socks, bird watching, picking up the forest flowers in the spring, things like that. But no.
You had to join this forum, fall under bad influence, and get infected by African spell, and now you have ideas!

Next thing what we will hear, you are about to buy a buffalo gun!

African idea is addictive!
Worst of all, is when ideas become dreams! Now you have it!
Incurable stage!

Haha! Just joking!

I look forward to your african hunting report, which we will read here before the years end, i am sure of it! .

Welcome to the club!

Of course, you were also present by the fire, in fact you are the main culprit for that dream. :D I'm sure of that. I know if Mr. Hunter Habib told the story of how he caught the last tiger. Generally, there were at least 100 of us by the fire

You know, @Miletic

There was once a little boy whose parents took him to see the 1950 version of King Solomon’s Mines (starring Stewart Granger) on his 7th birthday. He immediately became hooked with hunting in Africa and spent his entire childhood and youth wanting nothing but African Safari books for presents (and to be taken to the cinema to see films related to African hunting whenever possible). He shot ducks & geese in the local rivers but dreamt that they were guinea fowl & francolin. He hunted deer & wild boar but dreamt that they were eland & warthog. He used to “African Carry” his uncle’s shotgun and dreamt of it being a Westley Richards .577 Nitro Express.

That little boy was me. And in 1974, my former wartime Commanding Officer helped me make my dream come true.

52 years (and roughly two dozen safaris) later, I still dream of Africa and then go out and make it a reality. But when I return home, the dreams return too.

My latest dreams involve me stalking a black rhinoceros on foot with a .600 Nitro Express Heym Model 89B. And I’m determined to make it a reality someday soon.

Go make your dream come true, my young friend. We all think that we have forever. But time is truly the only resource which, after we’ve spent it… wish that we had more to spend foolishly.

Mr. Habib,
it's an understatement to say that I got goosebumps while reading what you wrote.
I will take into account everything you said. Thank you very much

I sincerely hope that very soon the sound of the .600NE fired from the Heym will break through the African prairie

Miletic..you are venturing into a darn addictive and expensive hobby..just saying :p

Pondoro friend, I know. :D I've already spent quite a bit of money on hunting. So... What's worth something must be paid for.

Money not spent on hunting, is money wasted!

I love posts like these. Good to know that I’m not the only romantic dreamer about African adventures, and that the allure of this place we love so much occupies even our subconscious.

I was out walking my woods yesterday. It’s an old pine plantation i just bought and is overgrown with briars, brambles, top cuttings and weeds. While following a well worn deer trail, I could have sworn I heard a guinea fowl…

I dreamed of Africa, well I grew up hoping I would hunt everywhere.
Short version is it was around 10 months from finding this site to setting foot in Africa.
What did they say? Africa, it’s not as expensive as you think. Got me thinking. A little research found it is not so bad.

You, my friend, are certainly not the only romantic dreamer around this place!
My dear Cback,
I'm glad it's like that.
It means that I am on the right forum and among the right people. This gives me hope that I will succeed in what I have imagined. Also, I will not be selfish and live only for the realization of my desires, I am willing to share my energy with all of you, which probably those who are not hunters can hardly understand

The comments on this thread are heartwarming and beautiful. One of my favorites books is by Michael Murphy and called Golf in the Kingdom. Kind of a mystical story of a man’s trip to Scotland. He’s sitting in a kitchen w some friends and the woman of the house listens to the golfers teasing each other and exchanging stories and finally says you talk and tease and argue and jest what you’re really doing is saying I love you in a manly way. Maybe that’s what we’re doing?!? I have found a home on this thread.

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is 239 565-8988. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
