My brother in law has a set of just plain warthog tusks

I want to make them into bottle openers for him. My initial thought is just fill with E600 glue and place a bottle opener top in it while it dries…

But that seems like is will be rough looking and not every well done. What are they using the cap them with?

Asking anyone more handy and creative than I (everyone) for some advice and where they would start! And how they would make one for themselves!

Thanks very much

Very cool idea. I had a lot of practice using one in Limpopo, but zero skill to craft one. I hate to be this guy, but did you check YouTube? Good luck!

How about a cap from his favorite brew. You could glue it to the end of the tusk and see if you could slightly form it around the tusk. Then drill and epoxy the bottle opener.

You can Google warthog tusk bottle opener and get some ideas.

Great idea for a way to blend the end so it’s not just bare glue showing. Thanks!

Yep! Zero help! One of the rare things not on YouTube haha

Actually, look into knife making videos. It's going to be very similar to making a hidden tang knife. Just need a spacer of some kind that the bottle opener is fit into and then glue both into the tusk with a good epoxy. Once dry, shape the spacer to the tusk.

This but then instead of the antler a tusk?
Filling the open space with epoxy.

Sounds like a excuse to buy a Dremel tool and accessories to shape a wood spacer between the tusk and bottle cap

And like knives your options for a spacer are impressive. Wood is easy and accessible, but if you want to get creative check out a knife maker supply. Plenty online such as Jantz.

Been an interesting and worthwhile project for a long time. This one is Edwardian and is capped in sterling. Have never had an inclination to tear it apart to discover how they solved the cracking problem. An attractive exotic wood sounds like a good idea.

I would epoxy a thin nickel silver (white brass) spacer to the end and shape to the contour of the tusk and polish. Then attach the opener…Also, an epoxy tip would be appropriate as well as micarta.

As @Ryan mentioned it’s very similar to knife making. Not bottle openers but examples of each material as bolsters on knives….should be a fun project! Enjoy!

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
