Just a few weeks away from first my Cape buffalo and Africa hunt in Zimbabwe with CMS. Can't believe it's almost here. I know I have to buy a couple of light safari outfits, long pants I guess and short sleeve shirts. I think camo is not allowed. Any particular online stores sell these? I looked at Cabela and didn't see much. Would appreciate any other items you guys would suggest that I need to take. I'm not taking a firearm and will be renting there. I did get Jim Green boots! Thanks in advance.

You are in for a great experience. They are one of my favorite outfitters to hunt with. You probably already have everything you need. Don’t spend too much. I wear long pants every day hunting and long sleeve somedays and short sleeve other days. For a long day, long sleeves are nice because they help protect against Sun, thorns, and tsetses. If you are just going out for an afternoon where tsetses aren’t supposed to be bad, I wear short sleeve. Last time I had 2 lightweight carhartt brown long sleeve cotton shirts and 2 green champion Tee shirts but I’m not particular about a brand. You’ll get a CMS green tag safari shirt on day 1 if you gave them your size already. For long pants I really like the LL bean tropic weight pants in gray. They hold up to thorns very well. I’d also recommend a bug net with a drawstring for when you sit. I also really like wearing a neck gaiter combined with ball cap. It’s easier to wear than a bug when walking but keeps the mopane bees out of your nose and ears, also stops sunburn.

What concession will you be hunting?

Lots of bullets and as stated by the color sergeant in "Zulu" "a bayonet, with some guts behind it" might not be a back fall back, lol

The CMS guys in Zim said camouflage is fine, just don't go head to toe in military surplus camo. Lots of them where i.e. Kuiu camo.
My kit list from last Zim trip (CMA - Dande)

KIT

Viperflex sticks (I prefer my quad sticks to their tripods)

Ear muffs and spare batteries

8x30 binos and chest harness

Belt pack (Green nylon) (for ear muffs and water bottle)

Torch and head torch

Leatherman multi tool

Sunscreen, insect repellent and bite cream

Kindle, chargers, books

US $ for tips, lots of 5s and 10s

CLOTHING

Cotton waistcoat

Green cotton shirts x3

Cotton shorts x2

Cotton trousers

Fleece jacket

Courteney boots

Leather gaiters

Meindl trailers

Crocs (for camp, slip on when go for a pee at night to avoid scorpions, thorns etc)

Caps and Tilley hat

Mosquito net

Whatever clothing you bring...Pretreat with Permethrin...I use Sawyer brand. Since using it I have never been knowingly tick bit or mosquito bit the last 8 years of Turkey Hunting! Effective even through eight washings. I use Avon skin-so-soft Bug guard plus Picaridin insect repellant on any other exposed areas not protected by clothing. Effective against mosquito's and deer ticks. I was in Zimbabwe last May sight-seeing at Vic Falls and Botswana and never had a problem. I won't be HUNTING Zim until next year although. Mopane flies and tsetse are still an unknown for me. We'll see next year. I DID wear my Jim Green's in Cape Buffalo skin for last year's 10-day Cape Buffalo hunt. I first broke them in by wearing them inside for a week to confirm good fit wearing only light sox as I wear every day. After confirming a good fit and reasonable pre-break-in comfort, I treated the leather to 3 coats of Obenauf Heavy Duty LP leather preservative. I would wait 24 hours between each coat for proper drying-in. I also buffed each coat before the next. Perfect everyday comfort over the miles. Good water resistance UNTIL the after hunt 3-day excursion to Vic Falls! Walking the periphery of the Falls in a constant fog of mist finally wet them through. They walked dry beautifully with no ill effects on me OR the leather! Sitting here next to me they look like new after almost a year! Go Jim Green!

P.S. Watch a YouTube video with Buzz of CMS . You will SEE all you need to wear on your Safari. Most people wear what they want. Buzz wears crocs with an added sole of his choice. Very personal. I wore my turkey hunting clothes on my trip last year and was PERFECTLY comfortable. Most of clothing you see as a must-wear is hype. Go comfortably, have a great time and if you want to look like Bwana-Jim, do it! Its your dream and your Safari! Good luck and have fun!

I just wore what I had. Browns olives tans. One piece I brought with unexpected use was a big silk handkerchief. By day 5 I thought nothing of tying it over my head and ears like Grandma used to wear. The mopane flies are different.

On this last hunt I took along a head net and airpods so at lunch time I could put the headnet on, put in my airpods, then I could relax without hearing those damn mopane flies!!

You will have a great time with Buzz and CMS. Be advised it is illegal to wear military camo patterns in Zimbabwe. I would even advise against the Realtree and Mossy Oak versions. Certainly do not travel in any camo patterns - out of sight, out of mind. The greens, browns and dark greys are just fine for Zim

Here is my list of stuff I take for Africa. Also, includes a preparation list. Just minor changes pending on location at times. Yes, I am a list maker.

I remember you posted this (or maybe a similar/different) list last year. I’ve been plowing through posts looking for it this morning and yesterday and lo-and-behold! You are kind enough to post it again today.

Thank you.

I SAW YOU HAD HOT SAUCE ON YOUR LIST, JUST TRYING TO BE FUNNY.
Not succeeding. ;)
My PH loved the Sriracha sauce, I had brought along two giant bottles. One as a gift and the other to use in camp. I knew he loved hot sauces as I had hunted with him before.

It definitely won’t hurt anything but I haven’t seen much need for treating clothes with permethrin outside South Africa. Generally concession areas that burn frequently don’t have many ticks. I can’t recall seeing any in dande.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
