This rifle is screaming to be taken afield and to have someone try to hunt the rifling out of the barrel. It’s a solid gun that deserves time killing things in exotic lands. I bought it because I really wanted to try one out, we don’t get many chances to see, handle or shoot Rigbys in Alaska, and was more curious than anything. My plan all along was to sell it, but after shooting it, I paused a bit. I was worried it was prove unpleasant to shoot in a lighter rifle, coming in well under 8lbs, but man was I wrong. While I’m sure it recoils more than a 308, it sure felt similar or even less than some similarly weighted 308s. I only ran I think 12-14 rounds through it, partial box of Nosler 250gr accubond and Hornaday 286gr softs. Both shot better than I expected with my eyes and iron sights at 100 yards.
So now, I’ve spent the last week conflicted. Should I scope it and keep it, or part with it. While I originally figured I’d want a 275, pretty sure now that I’d like to stick this chambering, if I were to hunt one. Main problem is I’m not all that much for plains game and nothing tiny, so at least while I’m on a double rifle sort of kick, and not wanting to ever leave my Rigby Big Game Rifle home, I don’t think this rifle would ever see much action from me…which is a shame.
Accordingly, I’ve decided to just put it up for sale here for you gents, and maybe someone who would use and enjoy it will get a great hunting rifle at what I hope is seen as an overly fair price. And if it doesn’t sell in a few days or a week, then I’ll order the bases and rings to scope it.
The metal, is minty, super clean.
The stock is pretty, but not incredibly figured as some. The stock also has some normal, handling bumps and bruises, consistent with being carried afield on a safari or two, and one I would call more of a scrape by the buttstock shoulder strap eyelet.
I’m pricing it as a gun that’s been hunted, barely as I think it’s a 2024 rifle, the kind you still want to care for properly, but won’t cry over the first evidence of use.
$11,750 + shipping/Ins.
