Hunted
Cape buffalo, plains game
Just before my first buffalo hunt, and having warned this sick person to stay away from me, I was showing some pictures when I felt her warm breath on my neck, as she wanted to see the pictures, too! Yes, I got what she had, and missed one morning's hunt--which could have included a free PAC buff cow. Grrrr.
What do YOU do to shorten/cancel a bad cold or other bug? I have found no way yet and hope you all can chime in. Although I did overcome a bug once by walking the whole long day after pheasants with a breathing mask on. I was motivated, did'nt care if I died later, and nobody was more surprised than me when I shook it off.
But I was younger then.

Before going to bed, prepare the following beverage, pour warm water in a glass, squeeze half a lemon in it, a spoonful of honey, and two fingers of whisky.

Next morning you´ll be fine. :D Cheers:

My first impulse was to say "just suck it up and get on with it" as you did on your pheasant hunt.
And 50 years ago I could have done it. But now not a chance. I have found Alka-Seltzer Plus to give me the most relief from cold symptoms. But thankfully I have not suffered from a cold in several years.

I like #3's suggestion! This past week we went to see my son, dil and the grand kids in NJ. We just missed the snow (we were mid south Jersey) The dil had friends with two kids that should have had a shock collar on, they were out of control, of course the parents did nothing.
Well the two kids had some kind of bug, guess what we both got it. We left a day early and are both trying to get over it.

Sunshine is better than Vitamin D, especially if you can get your chest and back exposed for about 20-30 good minutes.

Zinc, Magnesium, Vitamin C,

Lots of sleep, lots of zinc, lots of vitamin c, and just suck it up and suffer through….

Just went through this during the week of Christmas… it sucked purposefully keeping my distance (didn’t want to get others sick), and sanitizing everything I touched so I didn’t share my funk with elderly parents, etc...

but... if youve traveled half way around the world... and have thousands if not tens of thousands invested, countless hours of time in planning invested, etc... you just do the best you can with the hand thats been dealt to you...

I travel a decent amount for work and was fairly predictably sick a few years ago. I started taking the Airborne tablets last year a couple of weeks before safari as I was sure I'd get sick on the trip. They have worked like a charm and I've kept taking them since. I'm sick a lot less now and I'm older, fatter and in worse shape. So it must be the Airborne.

I have one such drink just about every day. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or something like that. I add cinnamon and nutmeg, sometimes ginger.
I also believe strongly in the power of garlic. I am exposed to a lot of sick people in my day to day life and when I do get sick it usually doesn’t last very long. I eat, on average, two cloves of raw garlic per day.
I also try to drink green tea once or twice per day, every day. This definitely seems to help prevent illnesses, and to decrease severity and accelerate recovery when illness does occur. I have been doing this for decades. The above mentioned lemon/honey/whisky concoction can be made with hot green tea too; it’s very good!

Zinc, Magnesium, Vitamin C,
While that is true, some of us live in climates in which that is not feasible during winter months and even summer months can be overcast. I started taking Vitamin D a number of years ago and the frequency and intensity of my upper respiratory infections has dropped dramatically. I take 50,000 unit pills 3x a week in the winter and I reduce that to 1x a week in summer even when I'm out and about and the sun is shining until midnight. Life changer for me. YMMV.

Actually, you're better off hunting WITHOUT the mask ... if hunting alone. Don't want to trap those bugs against your face. Fresh air and eating well can really help speed recovery. Hang in there.

I once read that you are contagious way before you even feel sick. Take a look at typhoid Mary, I don't believe that she ever came down with typhoid.

The people that I hate are those who feel something coming on and take drugs to make themselves feel normal, all the while those bugs are multiplying in their body's just looking for a new host.

I carpooled with a couple of coworkers just like I described. They both had some little germ carriers that were in school. You would of never realized that they were coming down with something until it was too late.

I was unlucky enough to be born with Chronic Migraine Disorder. There are different triggers for everyone, but for me, once I've got one, I've got one for hours or days. Forget Advil etc...I was literally more worried about a Migraine than I was the cobra they killed by the fire pit on my last safari. Anyway, my plan was to push through it and live my dream even if I keeled over afterwards. I never got one, PTL, but I was prepared for the worst at all times. I guess that's my sermon for the day. If you have a "condition" prep for the worst and live your best in the meantime. Over!

Drink as much water as you can! Vicks on the chest, fresh hot ginger tea that’s ground fresh ginger brought to the boil and then drunk add some honey. Had a bad chest infection with dam awful cough a month ago and added a fresh small cube of turmeric about the size of a little finger nail tucked up between your back molars and gum when sleeping. If you wake coughing then just bite gently on this and let the juice run down the back of your throat eases the cough. But it back for when you wake next.
Cleared the cough and cold with in 2 days. No of some people that caught it round the same time and they still have it.
But drink as much as you can sure helps. Hand sanitizer for when you’re around sick or many people ie plane! Sanitise hands after touching the menu and before eating.

The turmeric trick was thought to me by a Kikuyu maid when in Kenya!
You look like your on 50 smokes a day in the morning with the yellow teeth but works a treat!

I do the same thing. I just use Percocet instead of turmeric. Hey, they're both herbal, right?

I have found Zicam, vitamin C, alternate Tylenol & anvil and Sudafed help.
Friend has 5 kids in public school with the oldest 13, he swears they will be immune to Ebola by high school

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
