What can you just not seem to buy enough of.....

A habit left over from my 0331 days... I'm strong in my belief that if you actually know how much ammo you have, you don't have enough ammo.

However much ammo you think you need, double it!

I like the quote from the HBO series The Pacific, where Eugene Sledge ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_Sledge ) asks Robert Leckie ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Leckie_(author) ) what he believes in (if not God)?

I don't shoot factory ammo except .22 Long Rifle, of which I have several cases because twice we've been caught in periods of non-availability.

For centerfire rifle and pistol, I procure a lifetime or at least a decade's worth of brass when or before i acquire a gun with a new to me chambering. I also keep a many years' supply of bullets, powder, and primers on hand. Why? Because like Leckie, I believe in ammunition!

For me lately it’s been optics and horses. I’ve got three Swarovski spotting scopes, three different binoculars and a few too many riflescopes. As for horses, I’ve been buying two or three a year the past few years and all have turned out well, which is a miracle. Usually, it’s a 50/50 situation with horses whether you keep them or not.

My horse ownership has been at around 50/50 proposition. The last 3 have been keepers. I’m shocked horses haven’t gone extinct. There are so many things that will cripple and or kill them.

They are similar to a good dog. As soon as you find a good one and he gets perfect at his job. He’s too old to do it. I guess that goes for humans too.

Raspberries, blueberries, grapes and strawberries. Holy fenoli. Two teenagers. I guess it is better than Doritos and Twinkie’s, but I wish it was something less consumable/perishable. :)
Same. Two tweens that consume as my wife puts it “a fiscally irresponsible amount of fruits and vegetables”. But at least they are healthy active kids.

I feel the two of you on the fruit front. Two kids of our own and 5 more nieces and nephews over frequently, plus friends from the neighborhood results in 6-10qts of berries and 4-5 gal of milk per week in our house. I haven't quite compared it to feeding a horse yet, but I'd be curious.

Brass for rifles I might one day want is my weakness. I have dies and brass for at least 10 calibers I don't yet own, but might want to some day.

Dude wipes lol..

Not kidding, I’m sitting on 2 cases of them right now… they were on sale, and I couldn’t resist…

Brass is another addiction…. I’ve got about 800 loaded rounds of “hunting” 308 in the ammo locker right now, plus another 300 pieces of brass waiting to be loaded…

And I caught myself eyeballing hornady 308 brass this week..

I’ve got 300 pieces of 300 prc… and for some unknown reason feel like I need a minimum of 500…

Jeez I am getting really worried about you and your dude wipes.....:E Hmmm::E Head Scratch::E Shrug::E Rofl:

For me lately it's been bourbon. I'm not hunting or looking for allocated or super expensive stuff. I just like trying different stuff.

Right now I am stuck in a rut of buying good bourbon. I'm not even really drinking it. Just Bourbon collecting.

12 gauge BB shells (being the avid goose hunter that I am)

7x57mm Mauser Sellier & Bellot 173Gr SPCE soft points

.375 Holland & Holland Magnum Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bear Claws (at this time of writing, I have none at all)

Strawberry ice cream (I have to have a pint every single day since childhood)

Spicy flavored Cheetos (the family guests are always eating them before I can)

Brass, knives, jackets, boots, binoculars.

Dude wipes? Really!!! A tough Army guy like you saying that? I would have expected some Air Force guy saying that. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Perhaps it’s necessity rather than compulsion that has driven mdwest’s hoarding of said products. Notice there was no mention of WHICH Dude Wipes. That lack of specificity and his choice of wording, “I’m sitting on 2 cases…”, leave little doubt he may indeed be a martyr to the piles.

Shots fired :D

A man can never have:
To many books
To much ammunition
To much bourbon.

Oh… almost forgot too many boots.
I might or might not be a boot whore.

This thread reminds me of a conversation I had recently with a good friend whose father, who was a gunsmith, passed away.

He told me he’s helping his mom figure out what to do with his stuff and while he knew his dad had a lot of reloading stuff, he didn’t realize just how much his dad had. He told me there are many thousands of rounds of brass, including for obsolete cartridges such as 218 Bee and 221 Fireball, thousands of bullets, primers, about 500 pounds of gunpowder! , dozens of rifle barrels and more assorted parts than he can figure out at this time. About 50 rifles, some shotguns and several dozen pistols.

I’m just hoping that by the time he figures it all out that I can buy some RL15 & RL26 off him.

Hope he never has a housefire...
