Deer Season 2025

Got very lucky this weekend. As whitetail hunting usually takes a bit of luck in killing a big one.

Temps were still reaching 90 degrees and the mature deer were just NOT daylighting. Had a pressure drop one morning and out he came at sun up.

6 miles from the “river” (Rio Grande)
Always special to hunt on the Mexico border. Just north of Laredo, TX.

My little Sako forester in 243 was in hand.

I got lucky with this 8 point on day two of our rifle hunt here in Ontario. The bodies of these deer are big, lots of meat harvested. I used a BRNO ZXX 600 in 7x57, and Federal 140 gr Power Shok.

It’s funny, but Fed blue box (power shock) is my favorite white tail deer bullet for back home. It’s soft enough to kill deer quickly, but sturdy enough to penetrate adequately. I use it in 308 so those velocities are perfect for it. I’m sure your 7x57 speed is also a sweet spot for fed blue box. It has some serious value too at 26 bucks a box…

We took a bobcat with it (308) at only 30 yards and it had a small clean exit. I’m super impressed with this cheap load. It’s a do it all for me at the ranch.

Great northern buck you got there!

It certainly did it's job this time. It shredded up the lungs pretty good, no exit. This was at roughly 200 yards. The bullet was never recovered, it must still be in the gut pile.
I initially bought a few boxes of these for the brass, but wonder now if I was looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I got lucky yesterday on our Ozark lease. Three does walked behind my stand at about 3:30pm. Not running, but walking with purpose. I expected to see a buck right behind them. Fifteen minutes later, out stepped this 9 pointer. I shot him with my Win 70 in 30-06. 180 grain Federal factory blue-box. No drama. Back at the cabin

in time for happy hour!

Got my ground blind set up yesterday on my little plot . You can make out the shooting port of the ground blind.
This little field is good on real windy days and has great bedding areas. I would prefer to have it off of the field a ways but I’m to old to do all of that clearing.

I agree with you guys. During the rut it’s more about luck than anything else. Of course you need to do your part. But there is a huge amount of luck involved also.

Until I shoot mine. Then it’s alllll skill

A good buck for where we hunt in Georgia, but he pales in comparison to the many fine bucks previously posted on this thread. We broke him down after the hunt, and we are aging the venison for a week. He will provide many good meals for us, and family and friends. I love traveling all over the world to hunt, but there is something deeply special about hunting near home with close friends.

I bagged this one last weekend just before sunrise with a 300 Blk. My best buck yet by a long way. Note the white hooves.

White hooves? White hooves....you shot a gay deer.

Just kidding--what a great looking buck! Good mass, in body as well as horns.

My son in law is hunting opening weekend of the rifle season in Oklahoma. This is from my property, northeast of OKC. I plan to hunt there after Thanksgiving.

Very proud dad today! Oklahoma rifle season opened this morning. My little girl hunted hard last year but didn’t connect. An hour and a half in this morning and she put a perfect shot on this nice buck. Might be tough for her to beat her first deer.

Just got unloaded from opening weekend in OK. Been watching this guy for a few weeks, called him as my target last week. He beat the sunrise by an hour yesterday. Today, the fog must have kept him in bed a little longer!

Snuck the shot with 2 does at 75 yards watching me, was waiting for them to blow! 167 yards with a 162 ELD-X in a 28 Nosler. 100% expansion, didn’t even make it to the far shoulder. He ran surprisingly far (50 yards) with very little blood bassed on how the entrance wound looked.

Wow! Nice, wide spread on that buck. What part of Oklahoma?

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
