Last Chance For CITES Brown Bear Hunt!

Roebuck until 15 of October.
Yes, wild boar can be added, we hunt them
all year long.

Sounds like a fantastic trip - make sure to take a lot of photos and to post a hunt report afterwards
Will do! Certainly will take plenty of pics and video to post for report!

2 Quick questions.

Are Roe deer only hunted in the Spring?

What is the possibility of a Boar while on one of the other hunts for Stag, Chamois, or Bear?
I hunted with Marius in mid-July 2023 for roe deer. We hunted approximately 1.5 hours north of Cluj-Napoca (north of Dej). It was so beautiful (and not hot as still in the mountains).

I’ve just returned from my trip and all I can say is wow. Tremendous trip in all aspects. The country is beautiful, the bears are plentiful and Marius is a true professional. I wish more American outfitters were of the same ilk. If you’re on the fence regarding this trip, I suggest you get off of it and head straight to Romania. I’m happy to answer any and all questions, dm me and I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m able. Thanks again to @CADDIE5 for all of your time and guidance, it was truly appreciated.
Hi Robert,
Im considering booking this fall for Brown Bear. Love to talk with you briefly and get a lay of the land.

Hi ARod! I’ll be there with Marius @HUNTROMANIA Nov 1-7, 2025 (brown bear, Carpathian chamois and hopefully wild boar). My fiancé and I are leaving the US on October 28- getting to Bucharest on the 29th- will tour for a few days (Bran castle, etc- have to since it will be Halloween ) and then meet up with Marius. Then we’ll tour more after the hunt and fly out of Cluj-Napoca on 13 November… I hunted roe deer 2 years ago and he and the country is great! Let me know when you’re thinking of going this fall!!

I'm planning going in Sept for bear and red stag. How are his accommodations? Did you fly into Budapest then take short hop plane to closer city? Was gun import easy? What advise can you give me for traveling to Romania?

That’s awesome!! 2 years ago I flew into Cluj Napoca instead of Budapest as the roe deer hunting was approximately 1 hour drive north (just north of Dej). We stayed at like a bed-and-breakfast type place. Not sure where he does his red deer and bear hunting. I think he has multiple places for bear. Not sure about the red deer. Two years ago I went with my son and after we left Romania, we went to Austria and then onto the Czech Republic, so I did not take a rifle. I used his Blaser. And since my fiancé and I will be during Romania while we are there, I’m not taking an arrival this time either. However, as I said, this time, we are flying into Bucharest to be picked up by a good friend of Marius that will take us around to Brasov and the castles around it like Bran and Peles castles before we meet up with Marius. I’m not sure if we will do the bear hunt or the. Chamois hunt first. I think chamois hunting is west of Brasov in the Fargaras within the Carpathians. So I would reach out to him regarding the red deer location. He will be hunting and if it’s near where you will bear hunt. Since it sounds like you will be there a month and a half before me – definitely let me know how it goes! Not sure if people will want you to fly into Bucharest or into Cluj. We’re gonna fly out of Cluj to come home because it’s more north west and we want to go up into the northern part of the country to see the old wooden churches and the Eastern Orthodox churches after the hunt. So I would ask him what airport is best to fly into. I’m sure you’ll need your form 4457 filled out if you’re gonna take your own rifle. so he would be the best person to ask as far as other forms and requirements you will need to fill out. My advice though is to connect through rifle, friendly airports if you are taking a rifle. Stay away from London Heathrow, it all costs for that matter! Your best bet may be to try and connect through Frankfurt Germany. Let me know of any other questions you may have and I’ll try to answer them as best as I can.

Sometimes the clients are informing you that they cancel the hunt just 2 days before arrival. When you take all the permits on their names, when you book all the accommodations, you did the pre scouting weeks ago, you inform the rangers, police, all authorities about this hunt, and unfortunately you don’t sign a contract for the hunt, trusting the peoples.
We need to move forward and I would like to give the opportunity to another hunter. Number of the CITES licenses is extremely low and hard to get. For 2026 we don’t have any sign this will happen again. If someone is interested in this hunt please contact me by PM.
I can’t give any discount because I didn’t get any payment from this cancellation.

The reason this cancellation happened is because this so called guide did not secure my gun permit. I provided my passport hunting license and gun form August 14th. It turns out that he did not file for the gun permits. He never told me there was an issue regarding the rifle permit. I contacted him this morning (the day before my flight) asking about my rifle import permit.

He told me that he did not know I was bringing a rifle. A total shock. I almost got on a plane to Romania without a gun permit. On two occasions I communicated with him about bringing my rifle in for this bear hunt. Bringing my rifle on this hunt was always my plan.

I should have been more diligent in requiring more formality.
He never gave me a contract, itinerary or clear communication about the specifics of this hunt. I had to cancel all my travel arrangements because last minute he told me that he did not secure my rifle import permits. He gave me some bullshit about why he did not get my rifle permits trying some how make it my fault!

Literally had I not ask for the rifle permit this morning I would had landed at Bucharest airport without a rifle permit. Then he trying to turn this on me. Total bullshit!!

Massively disappointed with the entire experience! Hunters beware when dealing with this outfitter!

Arod, I didn’t want to mention your name here.
But if you started please show here where you said specifically you want to bring your gun?
You asked me few months ago if is allowed to take hand gun!
Please show where you sent me documents on 14 of August? You sent me documents 18 of August. Any hunter who is hunting in Romania with or without gun must have those documents.
Only LAST NIGHT 23:24 PM you asked me
“Do I need any paper work from you to import the rifle?”
If you consider us my mistake please accept my apologies. But don’t blame my organisation. I presented you all the paperwork ( hunting invitation on your name issued 22 of August, hunting insurance, I booked for you overnight in Cluj-Napoca your flight supposed to arrive late. I booked accommodation in hunting area, I show you the bills where your name was mentioned.
To go in any country with a rifle you need to be more specific about this. Airline itinerary that I never got form you, caliber and manufacturer of the gun, number of bullets. You never mentioned and sent any documents to suggest that.

@ARod - I never considered this hunt (or others like it) for many reasons and the main one is ALASKA, same Bears and in a State/Country I’m comfortable in - worth some extra $$ for that confidence & trust. There must’ve been other warning signs that this hunt was not well planned? Didn’t you realize you had No Rifle Permits weeks or months before departure? Also, since you accepted the other risks & unknowns - why cancel Now vs. just go and use the Outfitters Rifle? My questions are not meant to criticize and I’ve had things go wrong on hunts I planned also and later thought “how did I miss that”? Curious about other details if you care to share

He’s one of the most respected outfitters in that part of the world.
Not just because he is a sponsor on here - but by many renowned booking agents and hunters world wide.

Obviously something went wrong in the communication process.

My first question is, did you have a travel agent used for flying with guns? Maybe you learned the hard way that hunting guides are not travel agents.

I am not an expert but I have learned by many mentors on here - when you embark on a across the globe journey and plan to bring a weapon… you pay the piper and get a legit travel agent who gets it done. No if ands or but’s !

Also, just on a side note and completely my opinion.

Why wouldn’t you just go hunt? I find it crazy to just bail on a hunt of a lifetime. Blasers and swarovskis not good enough? People have used worse camp guns than that haha.

I don’t go on dangerous game hunts with other peoples rifle and ammo. I have proven rifle for these types of hunts. Second, the fact that he screwed up getting the gun permit and then tries to place the blame on me is B.S. and infuriating! I sent him my passport, and rifle customs form a month ago. He never mentioned an issue. To give him benefit of the doubt at best it’s bad communication. We can’t start a dangerous game hunt on a bad foot. So I cancelled the trip and am greatly disappointed!

Well in retrospect the biggest sign was that he never presented me with a contract or itinerary. I have been to Africa 3 times and have always been present with the hunt in writing. (Contract, itinerary, gun permit import application) never had an issue Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

I did reach out to a few guys that hunted with him. I got positive feedback and decided to go. Ultimately I canceled because if you can’t get my required paperwork right I can’t trust you with my safety in the field. Canceling was not something I wanted to do.

Very strange decision of ARod, i think the mistake was on his site, from what i can read here, Marius offers you some options or openings.
I hunted with Marius many times, and had never any issues with gun import, because i made it clear to Marius that i will bring a firearm, including the copy’s of my documents and wich rifle and serial nr.
Everything is put on my invitation, actually last week i went on another hunt with Marius, when i arrived at that border, the customs stamp my papers, give me an compliment that everything was ok and stamped my papers.
To my luck this evening i could bag a nice 14 pointer redstag.
Everything was prepared in good manner.

In the past i always warned Marius to be good on trusting people, most hunters are using the gentlemen agreement on hunting.
But not all hunters, and then the outfitter will have a problem, because he paid for many things in front, and then somebody simply say i dont come.

I relied on good reviews like yours to book this hunt. I gave him my rifle documents along with my passport mid August only to find out the night before I travel that no gun permit was pulled. Totally not cool and a deal breaker!

I’m all about honoring a gentlemans agreement when both parties perform their obligations. Having my gun is a lot more important than fussing about places to stay. The way you do something is the way you do everything. Hunters on this forum can make up their own mind.

Regardless…..I’m not going to burn any more energy debating with people on this forum. I’m not demonize this guy. All I’m saying is he dropped the ball on my hunt, tried to spin it on me and I cancelled the hunt. I’m disappointed about the whole thing!

My suggestion is that Buyer should ask a lot of questions and follow up with paperwork and solid communication.

Sorry it went sideways. Marius is a gentleman and an outstanding outfitter. I leaving Saturday for another hunt with him.

@Dutchtrapper sorry I will miss you this trip. Good luck but leave a nice one for me!
